this summer I am trying out for Footloose and I need some audition tips and good audition songs. I am 15 and an alto but can sing higher. I am trying out for the part of rusty. tips and advice please?

Hey Barb you should sing a song that we learned in Fame Like sing the opening portion of Fame that would be really good for you or take phantom of the opera for a ride since the directors everytime I tried out just love Phantom since it is some of the hardest music to sing!

I think it's awesome that you know this far in advance what show and role that you're aiming for. You should be well prepared by then knowing as much as you can about the show and the role.
One description I found - Rusty: Ariel’s best friend; comes off as sassy and self-assured but a romantic-type character; believes she and Willard are meant to be together (4 trio’s and 1 solo musical numbers and some ensemble numbers).

You should sing something pop or very uptempo pop-like. Sine you're young you might be able to get away with some typically overdone stuff. Maybe:
Summer Nights - Grease
Good Morning Baltimore - Hairspray
Honestly I can't think of a lot of suggestions for that genre so if they prefer that you sing from the show, go ahead and sing Let's Hear It For The Boy. You can also look at some jukebox musicals and some newer musicals with a pop type feel such as Hairspray, Movin' Out, etc.
