I'm curious because there are a lot of really good, clearly outlined to not be intended to offend or hurt anyone, questions being asked (primarily about race and racism) and I just want to know why people who are daring enough to politely ask for opinions are being called racists and bigots for their opinions. Doesn't it make you just as much as a racist or a bigot to tell someone their opinion is wrong and yours is right?

theres nothing wrong with having personal opinions. however, if your opinion involves asumptinous information, is hateful, or impolite, then perhaps it shoud not be said if it will offend someone else.

You must stay openminded about all things, learn about it, and make adequate choices and beliefs before openng your mouth. also, it is impossible for something to be true or untrue about an Opininon

LOL, I didn't look at the category that this was in and I was going to say that I was kind of closed minded about things like music because I'm old and I like the music from my generation.

I was born and raised in Miami, I was surrounded with people from diverse cultures, colors, and sexual orientation. I don't have any problems with different races, cultures, or sexual preferences than mine. I don't mind RESPECTFUL questions at all. There's so many racist on here that you do have to be very careful wording your question though. It's a shame that bigots have ruined the site for people who really are just curious!!!!!!!

it depends. People who really want to know about a race different from theirs can detected by their UNBIASED questions, their willingness to actually interact with other races while putting their stereotypes and judgements aside. Some people wrongly feel that they can ask offensive, though frank questions about a different race and get good honest answers. Wrong. If you start off a question by offending your target audience, it doesn't matter how frank you are and how honest you are in your quest for knowledge because you put your desired audience at a defensive and you don't get anything useful from them.
I was amazed at the Bill O'reilly incidence. Why? Not because Bill honestly thought that black americans were still living in the stone age, or that he ate at a black restaurant or that he took it on himself to say, i thought so and so but now i find out that i was wrong. Those are all good things to do. What did amaze me is that he has been sharing his strong opinions to america about people he obviously does not know. How can you hold such strong opinionated views and broadcast them on national TV to millions of viewers when you do not even know these people? I thought it was very irresponsible of him. I do hope he now realizes his ignorance and takes the time to actually experience the reality of issues in the united states before taking strong sides and making judgements

I consider myself open minded, but that is considering someone else's life and life choices. In my personal life, I'm prolly a bit traditional and closed minded. Some people are hyper sensitive and don't take to being questioned about things they consider daily routine or daily life. They tend to be a bit egocentric and think "what a stupid question" or "what a stupid person" Alot of times its just misunderstanding because you can't read the emotions of another person through the computer. Humor and Sarcasm don't translate well via text. Hope that helps.

No I do not believe myself to be closed minded.

I also realize there are many different people in this world and there are reasons as to why people think and believe the way they do.
It is easier to point the finger at someone else calling the other person this name or that name. Different story when the finger is pointing at you. People in general like to be on the political correct side thinking this is the winning side.

You have a very good point!

I have principles, and I have opinions, so yes.
"Open-mindedness" is just a euphamism for willfull ignorance. (IMHO)

I can consider opposing points and even understand them, but I'm under no obligation to coalesce or compromise.
