Yeast is a natural living organism. Humans carry a form of harmless yeast inside their bodies and as long as the yeast stays in the right place and remains healthy, it isn't a problem. However, many women get yeast based infections within the vaginal area. This can be caused by other illnesses, generally poor health, sex withan infected partner, periods etc. If a woman has a yeast infection she can spread it to a male partner during sex. He in turn can pass it on to other females thus infecting women that have no problem. Once a woman has an infection, it isn't curable but can be controlled. Once under control, a woman can be free of infection for as little as a few weeks to as much as a few years. In some cases the infection can flare up regularly. As you are likely to know, the infection of the yeast is commonly known as vaginal thrush but it can affect male organs as well. An infected male will infect a healthy female very easily.

As far as I know you can get yeast infections by not cleaning thuroughly.Your mate might not be completely clean during intercourse. And some medications like anti-biotics can cause yeast infections. My doctor has also told me that if you wear a wet bathing suit for a long period of time it may help create one. Thats what I have been told by a few friends and Doctors anyway. hope it helped

Generally it is an overgrowth of the yeast organism that we all have present in our body.

One of the biggest problems is wearing synthetic underwear that with holds moisture causing a warm damp environment that will help the yeast to overgrow.

The second way is taking antibiotics. The antibiotic is fairly capricious in killing all bacteria, even the good bacteria in your system that keeps yeast in check. So the yeast has an opportunity to over grow.

Eat Yogurt with live cultures helps control yeast when you take antibiotics.

Sometiomes they can be the result of hormonal changes throughout your cycle. I used to get a yeast infection every month (at the same time of the month!) and it drove me mad. A Gynaecologist told me that sometimes this happens just as a result of the hormonal changes disrupting your body's natural bacterial balance.
