Do you want to go into sales? Most marketing majors end up there...

If you don't want to be a sales person, better to go with finance, though accounting is closely related to finance, and much more desirable on the job market. You could sit for the CPA.

P.S. I'd get an MBA if possible.

This is a question of desire, abilities, and common sense.

First and most importantly, which path is more interesting and stimulating to you? You should always go with something you enjoy, or you could really regret the choice later.

Secondly, do you have the ability to take higher level mathematics courses required for Finance. The degree is heavy in algebra and calculus. Plus, you'll need to work with some of the advanced functions on MS Excel like "solver" and "if statements".

The common sense part?...well, there are way more people out there with Marketing degrees than Finance. So, you'll be more in demand with a finance degree. But, like I said, if you don't like the career path, it wouldn't make sense to go that route.

As a general rule, I'd say marketing majors will start around $30K and average around $50K at 5 years, while finance might start around $50K and average $85K at 5 years.

I graduated a year ago and considering the economy and your goal to make decent oney, your better job options are in finance. These people are more sought for and its impressive to have that as your degree rather then marketing. FInance is easily accepted in many positions where marketing degrees get you into marketing, and even then you need to further your education to really get anywhere. If youre looking to make money, finance. Even with the work load you will have to endure, you be happy you did once you graduated.
