Are there any laxitives that are safe for breastfeeding Moms? Since delivery, I have had a problem with constipation and can't bare going to the ladies room. I have been taking metamucil fiber supplements but it isn't helping, in fact, it seems like it's worse. Please help!

Ask your doc about Miralax (for adults and children). My son (12 months) has constant constipation and his ped recommended it for him. It works wonders and I don't know what I would do without it. You add a cap full to juice or water and it softens the stool. I buy mine at Target for $6.00. This is the only thing that worked for him.

My OB/GYN gave me stool softeners at the hospital before I was relased. They were a life-saver. You can also try Metamucil's Fiber Sure. It is a fiber powder that you can add to just about any food. It was safe enough for me to even use while pregnant.

Ask about stool softeners - ask your doctor or even your pharmacist (there may be an over the counter version you can get that's pretty effective).

My OB gives out an order for Colace brand pretty much every time she sends women home from the hospital post-partum...I don't remember if it's prescription or not.

Most are safe. My sis had this problem after birth and she was prescribed some suppositories that helped wonders.
