Okay, dual core is a generic name, it means any processor with 2 cores. Such as the term "sports car" just a generic term for a type of car. Core 2 Duo is a specific model of processors from Intel, and they are dual core processors. Such as, "Corvette" is specific model of sports car. The Intel Pentium D, Core Duo and Pentium Dual Core, as well as the AMD Athlon 64 X2 and Turion X2 are also different dual core models.

Dual core processors are new generation processors which have two cores in one processor. Like Pentium 4 processors had only one/single core in them but after 2005, intel produced dual core processors and named it "Core 2 Duo". With one core processor, u can do multitasking but it will slow down ur computer. but with dual core processors, u can do multitasking without slowing down ur pc. Like with intel's dual core processor "Core 2 Duo" with speed of 2.2GHz, u can allot one core to scan for virus and simultaneously u can play a game!!

Intel's Core 2 Duo is now behind Intel's Core 2 Quad processors where u have 4 cores!! Intel's Core 2 Extreme processors are also quad processors but are specially produced for gaming rigs!!

Dual core is the name, Dual core 2 is the second version (much like Pentium was the name, and Pentium 4 is a version).

core2duo will be fine ... a quad would be better but more expensive ..and dualcore is a general term .. multiple cores refer to more than one processor on the die of the cpu and makes possible deviding workload when u multitask and increases productivity .. xp or vista either one can handle all of them just fine ..
