From now on if a man is caught kerb crawling he will be criminally charged. OMG! In Europe prostitution is quite legal and has reduced the amount of sex crimes in these countries.
The girls are checked over by a doctor every month and if they pass the tests they are given permission to work and if they fail they can't until they do.
The girls work in a designated area which is policed and regulated so the girls are safe as are the people who wish frequent it.
I know this is an emotive subject but I believe a lot of relationships could be saved by this. Women lose their libido too and some men have unusual fetishes that their partners can't fulfill. Wouldn't it be better if these people could have their natural urges satisfied in a safe and clean environment instead of risking their (and their partners) health?
Should the government think about this?

I would have to disagree on some points here. I lived in The Netherlands for over 8 years and prostitution does not stop young people having children nor less STD.

The reason The Netherlands don't have the same social issues as seen in the UK is that young people are taught from an early age about responsibility - career is placed above having children and making benefit claims. STDs are low because children are taught about sex in a more open and responsive way without an attitude of shying away from certain topics as seen in the UK.

Prostitution can help many of the women but doesn't actually help their problems. Many still have drug problems - and their 'jobs' fund their habits.

The UK is simply immature in a lot of ways when compared with the rest of Europe.....that is why we see so many stupid laws.

I have to agree that it is quite a stupid law, you only have to look to places like Amsterdam where people are much more liberally minded towards sex. I personally do not visit prostitutes but at the same time I can appreciate that there will be people who do. Like you say it's a good idea that if people with those particular needs have a safe environment in which to go to then wouldn't it then be safer for everyone involved, local communities, the prostitutes themselves and the clients who can go to a registered place safe in the knowledge that they wont catch some terrible disease

Laws are not stupid, the people that make them are. In this Country It's all about the money. The moment something is legalized it looses appeal and becomes mundane and unprofitable. Isn't pornography the biggest form of prostitution? Nevertheless , is protected by the first amendment, why? Because is a huge business!!! I'm not a moralist, far from it, but isn't that hypocritical?
The same with drugs, and immigration, big profitable government businesses.

Yes - legalise, regulate both male and female prostitutes, straight and homosexual. That way we may go some way to protecting those who purvey those services, and protect those who get attacked by pervs while, at the same time, reducing the spread of STDs and unwanted pregnancies.

Coranth1 you are on UK answers - the word is KERB

This is nothing new in the UK. (This is the UK page, so I presume that it is a UK question.) It has for many years been a criminal offence to kerb crawl and the main objection is the effect which it has on the neighbourhood for all these cars to be cruising around, with the drivers accosting women who are simply about their lawful business, thereby bringing them embarrassment and distress. That is the reason for the criminality of this particular practice. It is a public nuisance.

Sure but legallization in all states would be the best idea but when I was in Germany they were having problems with an issue that they never invisioned. To get unemployment you have to look for a job , all of a Sudden being a Prostitute was on the list of Jobs that women would have to take........so tell me would you take a prostitute job?

Yes they should but they won't. No government would enact any laws that they fear would lose them votes. In 1997 the so called New Labour party secured a massive mandate from the voting public and promptly reneged on their manifesto promises, most notably on fox hunting (hardly a world shaking issue) but also on taxing non-domiciles, NHS dentistry and crime. At least prostitution is usually honest; you get what you pay for whereas in politics, you rarely get what you vote for.

In response to a couple of your replies.

It is kerb-crawling, the questioner is correct.

To curb means to put a restraint upon.

"kerb crawling" -- I assume you mean "curb crawling" as some time of action seeking to solicit a prostitute.

Whether prostitution is legalised or not -- it's very difficult to prove someone was intending to solicit a prostitute, without actually going ahead and soliciting.

So, attempting to make it illegal to "walk around with the intent to solicit" -- which is what I imagine your "curb crawling" would be defined as -- that's beyond stupid -- it's unenforceable in any legal system because it makes it a crime to think something, even if no action has been taken.
