I just finished my 2nd year at an univeristy. I am hoping to apply to a law school but my GPA is very low (2.2 to be exact). Someone told me that if i do extremely well on the second half my univeristy years combined with a fairly good LSAT scores, I have a good chance of getting into a decent law school. Is this true? or should i just give up?

That someone was correct. If you do very, very well in your last two years, especially in your major classes, and you do very well on the LSAT, you could get into a decent law school. But focus, and do well. If you need to get tutors, do so. If you need to quit doing certain activities that are interfering with your studies, then do so. Eyes on the prize, my dear. Focus, and you can do this.

Even if you later chose not to do law school, doing well in your last two years will help you get into other sorts of grad programs, and also make perspective employers quite happy.

Work hard! Don't be shy about asking for help. And good luck.

No, it's definitely true. The first half of university is a highly difficult transition time. You're learning how to live on your own, how to manage your own responsibilities, and how to cope with a far greater amount of advanced coursework - all at once.

Grad schools understand this. They don't necessarily need to see perfection - they need to see IMPROVEMENT. They need to know that you are capable of performing well and that over the last two years of university you learned how to do do well consistently. That (and high LSAT scores) will definitely make up for the lackluster first two years.

LSATs are important. If you work really hard - you'll have to get a lot of As - you can bring up your GPA. They look at your total GPA for all years, not whether your first years were subpar.

Yes -- you can get into some law school. However, I think your chances of getting into a highly regarded program are minimal.
