When i try and think about this question i don't really see it being possible to buy more than a bag of potato chips and a hot coffee, 5 dollars doesn't go very far.

Most homeless people don't eat every day anyway. Most, not all, are drunks or addicts. So yeah, they could easily live on $5

There are homeless people who live on nothing a day, there are also homeless people who hold down good paying jobs. Just choose not have have a place.
Potato chips are nothing but junk food, so is that coffee you bought. Coffee down at our only store here in our town is 25 cents.
Loaf of bread 99 cents on sale. Ketchup does not cost a lot and make a sandwich which is not the tastiest but will do.
There are soup kitchens out there who charge nothing for a good meal.

Advice; volunteer at a soup kitchen or some other place who help the homeless and you can learn for yourself. You will see that we take many things for granit.

Of course they can. They can get water from water fountains. Most places have them. They can buy a loaf of bread and some meat or cheese. That's well under $5. Homeless people have more appreciation for a dollar than those who don't even have to think about it.

You eat in the supermarket,
or at the homeless shelter,
sleep where ever you like,
shower at the truck stop,
$5 a day, is for the little things
to pass the time, while you try
to figure out what keeps you on
the streets in the first place.

Well, if a homeless person goes to WalMart, they can get cans of tuna and other nutritious foods for very cheap. On top of that, they can usually get bottle slips from people and collect cans on their own, and depending on the region and work need, some will pay hourly for cart collection.

Also, shelters provide some food and clothing, so they're good there as well.

They just need to be sensible.

Theres all ways the free grocerys they get from passing by soccer moms.

And this homeless guy comes into my restaurant every once in a while and I all ways give him like a container of rice and ice water.

They honestly have alot of things just handed to them. They could probably live off even $2 a day

If all they intended to do was buy food with it then yes in theory they can. I mean right now im on a budget and I spend only about 2-3 dollars per day on food.

That's because you're not shopping right. When I was dead broke in school, I lived on an average of less than $5/day (not counting beer money), and that included my portion of the rent.

The trick is to save that dialy allowance and buy bulk of things like rice and potatoes.

Actually, they can survive on less. They will do whatever they have to do to survive as a rule. Besides, doesn't cost anything to eat out of a dumpster.

Pay no mind to the trifling responses about the McDonalds dollar menu.
