Siggy women dont have that freedom ? Says who ? You want more pay, go to your boss tell him gimme or I leave if he doesnt pay you more go elsewhere, untill you meet somone willing to pay you what you have in mind. Thats how the big boys do it.

Have you ever negotiated a salary? It is not like you have a choice. You may have a little wiggle room within a range but the Employer is pretty set on what they are going to offer. Plus, from my perspective (working in business), wage discrepancy is only an issue with the top players. Like a women CEO versus a man CEO. Big players have tons of wiggle room because they have tons of experience. Wiggle room in negotiations = experience. In today's economy employers are cutting wages and workers working more. Companies have the advantage here. You need a job, if you don't take their offer they have a 100 different applicants who will. Also, it's opposite these days too. They are bringing, for entry/mid-level people, Male's higher earnings down to the fem ale's conventional earnings. This way they even the standard and save money over raising a women's salary to meet the traditional Male's standard salary. See how this works? They save money by doing so. Also, more and more people have too many BS/BA degrees. So they don't need as many. So why hire a new grad full time when they can take their skills to a Temp agency and the Company can hire then from there saving 50% and paying no health-care cost what so ever? This makes sense to the corporation. They have the advantage. The reason wage gap is not baloney is because it is often out of the employees hands. It is un ethical practices utilized by companies and employers to save a buck.

I suppose you have a valid point.

To be honest, I'm not even sure where I stand on the wage gap issue. I've seen so many conflicting sources I don't even know what to think.

All that said, if it IS true, then it's blatantly unfair for all/most of the females to be paid less than all/most of the men, for the same job. You are correct, women should be more proactive in getting the highest salary they can get. However, the world of business is still male dominated (at least in upper management) and there is still a lot of sexism in business, so many women are probably afraid to ask for a higher salary because they're just happy to be there in the first place and don't want to get off on the wrong foot. An employer paying a woman lower than a man just because she doesn't ask for more is taking advantage of this possibly justified fear that the woman might have.

So, even if it shouldn't be a legal issue, it should still be an ethical issue. Employers should be proactive in being ethical and fair.

In companies following the letter of human resource law, all jobs are placed in a 'category' - and within each category, there is a wage range. Seniority, performance and output determine where an individual falls within that range. So it is entirely possible that a man or woman may LEGALLY make more or less than others performing exactly the same job.

To suggest there is discrimination behind the wage gap assumes that I, as an employer, will gladly pay some man 23% more than an equally qualified woman -- solely because he's a man. Do the math -- why would anybody, other than a nutcase, do that? Blatant, purposeful discrimination is not behind the wage gap.

More men than women bother to negotiate for a salary because salary is more important to men than women. One of the many benefits to women of living in a sociey feminists call "patriarchal" is that both men and women expect the man to be the breadwinner, and a woman can freely attach herself to a man's income without fear of society (or the legal system) disadvantaging or demeaning her. A woman therefore will more readily accept what's offered than will a man, because by and large, how much she earns is less important than how much he earns.

Yes you should have those rights but feminism clearly isn't about rights. It is about lowering the standards required for a woman to achieve the same as a man. It is about raising the standards that are required of men when paying to give what they want. I.E. Child ransom and alimony are never high enough if he can afford to drive a car then he could be paying more. A feminist actually posted that here. Feminists don't care what causes anything they just want to dominate. So if there is a root cause of some problem to them the answer isn't to fix the problem but to legislate it. That means passing more laws and jailing more men to get them what they want. I would have for more respect for feminists if they would actually fix problems rather than creating more.

I want to make sure I understand what you are saying. Are you saying that a woman makes more money than you and you both do the same job, in the company? Wow, isn't this different! It' finally happened! hooray!
