Be prepared to make a lot of stops! I took my daughter on a 4 hour plane ride and then a 4 hours car ride in the same day. It totally sucked, but we managed. We had to stop every hour or so in the car to get out and stretch and let her run around a while. Just stop at the local gas stations and ask for the nearest park. You won't be sorry you did!

I second Dawn Z's suggestion! We drove 11 hours from NC to NY over the summer and it was soooooo much easier driving at night. Sure we felt like heck when we got there but it was worth it not to have to stop ten times or have the stress of a screaming child in addition to the traffic. As a bonus, there are a lot fewer traffic jams at 3 am.

I would bring a children's cd along, a portable dvd player, some toys, a sippy cub and some snacks, and blanket for him to hold when he/ she gets tired. I wouldn't worry too, too much about entertainment. Most children end up falling alseep in their carseat anyhow. I have two children and when ever we go on long car rides it's hours of relaxation for me because they fall fast asleep. Bring soothing music along.

Oh boy that is a hard one.
They make a mirrow/entermaintment type thing that can do on the back of the seat or attached to the carseat (the link is below)
Bring a bag of his favorite toys and cd's to play of his favorite songs...and take a couple of pitstops so he can stretch his legs.
Good Luck!!

Do you have a portable DVD player? That can keep him\her busy for at least an hour....and maybe they would fall asleep for a while. I would also suggest keeping plenty of snacks on hand. How about paper and those big, jumbo crayons?

if at all possible drive at night when baby can sleep it is a shorter drive for everyone! that the thing I have found that works the best. you can try singing or food or toys but they all just work for a short time. Best of luck(ear plugs for you help to)
