It really depends on your car. You didn't list Year, Make, Model, and engine.

Most cars in the US can run any octane level. In fact most cars in the US have a compression ratio that prevents them from taking advantage of the premium and super unleaded gasolines. If your car does have a high compression engine, many car manufacturers have installed a Knock Sensor in the car to prevent pre-ignition by retarding spark. This basically forces the engine to fire the spark at a point that is less than optimal for most power, but prevents engine damage. Your car's user manual will say something like Premium Fuel "Recommended", which implies that a knock sensor will allow you to use the cheaper gasoline without damaging the engine.

If your user manual says Premium Fuel "Required", you must use the premium gasoline at all time. Using the cheaper gasoline will causing engine knocking, and damage the engine. The knocking is pre-ignition occuring in the cylinder chamber at points other than the spark plug. When the multiple flame fronts collide, you'll get shock waves generated and this will cause the knocking noise you hear from the engine. If you hear the knocking noise coming from your engine, take the car to you local parts store and purchase a bottle of "octane" booster. Basically, you pour this stuff into your gas tank. This will help minimize the knocking and minimize any damage to your engine.

No, that' won't damage anything. Just put a gas treatment in the tank, and then when you get down to a half a tank just top off with premium. You may notice a little bit difference in perfromance but you will not notice anything major. Everything will be fine.

There are 2 activities which will reason the nozzle to close off immediately, and neither one has to do with a vent on the gasoline tank. the 1st journey that motives shutoff is that if the little hollow on the backside of the nozzle close to the release end of the nozzle will become lined (with liquid). it rather is a small vacuum line that generally sucks vapor from the tank. while the tank fills to the element that liquid gasoline covers the hollow, the vacuum will develop (tension decreases) to the element that a vacuum change shuts off the nozzle. to keep away from having the nozzle close off in develop, there are a pair of issues which you're able to do. First, once you insert the nozzle, tilt the nostril up interior the filler tube. in case you park with the gasoline cap near to the gasoline pump, then the burden of the hose that hangs down will help carry the nozzle with the top up (and in fact the nozzle ought to robotically lock into the fill tube). yet once you park some distance away, the nozzle would desire to tilt down extra because of the fact the hose is stretched out. the full element right here is to maintain an air hollow below the vent hollow on the backside of the nozzle tip. the different element you're able to do, say after the 1st time it shuts off, is to fill extra slowly. Then the returned-splash from filling is far less probable to splash up, conceal the vent hollow, and reason the nozzle to holiday off. the 2nd journey that would reason a nozzle to shutoff applies given that the nozzle has a vapor-restoration equipment. this technique is denoted by ability of a versatile accordian-form black boot this is a sheath around the nozzle. The boot must be compressed to a pair volume to be certain that the nozzle to function. generally it rather is compressed sufficiently once you insert the nozzle and lock the nozzle in place by ability of tilting up the nozzle nostril. yet while the nozzle isn't inserted deep sufficient, or heaven-forbid, the nozzle backs out, then the boot will holiday the nozzle off. aside: in case you prefer to fill a gallon gasoline can each of ways, then you ought to manually pull returned the boot. in any different case the nozzle will stick too some distance into the gasoline can to fill thoroughly. be conscious that neither of the above activities has something to do with even in the journey that your gasoline tank has a vent. provide the guidelines a attempt earlier spending any money attempting different techniques.

One tank of regular will not ruin your engine. It will decrease your gas mileage for a bit. But if you are truely worried and would like a remedy, go buy a bottle of octane booster (About $2). Then everything will run just like you put premium in it.

none, just don't drive like a demon until the next tank. The premium helps curb detonation..
