I have to make blueprints for my math class. I have to put down the perimeter and area for each room. Well, now I have a problem. The bathroom. How do I write the perimeter (has to be ? x ? format (say 5 x 10))

Here's a picture. http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x253/calfan5/blueprints002.jpg

Perimeter would be the sum of the sides. Add up all your sides (12.5 + 5 + 7.5 + 2.5 + 5 + 7.5) and you'll get 40 ft. for the perimeter.

If you mean area (which is usually calculated multiplying two dimensions), you should imagine the bathroom split into 2 rectangles. Take the wall that is 2.5 long and imagine it goes all the way down. That will form two rectangles that are each 5 ft. by 7.5 ft.

2 rectangles x 5 ft x 7.5 ft = 75 sq. ft.

draw an imaginary line which is 5 ft long from horizontal 7.5 ft until it touches verticle 7.5 ft. That way you have two rectangles stacked together

Since you have 2 rectangles it's easy to write in the form ? x ?. and calculate area

Perimeter is the total length that sourrounds the area.
P = 2.5 + 5 + (2.5 + 5) + 12.5 + 5 + 7.5
I broke down the verticle 7.5 into 2.5 and 5

Perimeter is just length L, i.e. unit of measurement is ft
Area is usually expressed in square of length = L * L or unit of measurement is f^2

Perimeter = 5 + 7.5 + 2.5 + 5 + 7.5 + 12.5

Figure the perimeter using all of the lengths. With a complex figure, you can's just use A x B.
