I want to be an editor/publisher, but I'm not sure what to major in. I know I can just go general with something in business or communications, but when I've discussed this with a few people, they've seemed positive that several schools (both undergrad and grad) offer a major in specifically editing/publishing? I've tried searching online but haven't had much luck. Anyone have some helpful information in this area?

I've been leaning towards the same career path myself. I'm an English major but I know many people who go into publishing also major in Journalism, Public Relations, Business, Creative Writing... the list goes on and on. There is no specific Editing/Publishing major but I'd say your best bet would be to get an English degree with some kind of business or PR minor and apply like hell for a publishing internship. Everything I've read says the publishing field cares less about what you've majored in and more about what experience you have.

Good luck!

I studied English Literature and imaginitive Writing at college interior the united kingdom with comparable aspirations to you, all i've got ever extremely wanted to do is write. the only element i might propose is that a standalone degree in imaginitive Writing interior reason constrictive even though it works properly as a secondary element or minor. evaluate that in the time of common terms some human beings be in a position to get revealed and maximum of those that do have not have been given a qualification in imaginitive writing, so think of approximately what you would be wanting to do in case you probably did no longer get your 'Harry Potter thought'. An English significant does additionally place some regulations on you yet it relatively is the comparable with a super form of majors, it generally comes all the way down to the guy modules (credit in u . s . a . of u.s.?) which you elect as they properly impact the form you develop. i understand artwork in Banking even although I continuously write and my writing has more advantageous from what I discovered in my course. If I have been to do something in yet in a diverse way i might probable take imaginitive Writing as a minor and Spanish as a significant. I additionally desire i might stayed to end a coaching qualification besides in the previous getting tied up with marriage and a loan.
