a friend recently shared that he likes to go to Yahoo Answers in philosophy. There was so much stimuli that I forgot to ask what he hopes to learn or share here.

I used to be a philosophy major in college, but then I discovered that Buddhist meditation is more like applied philosophy. It goes deeper, for example, to actually examine the mind and how it works rather than theorizing about it. Buddhist meditation is also like the science of the mind, and when you meditate, you are as if in a laboratory doing research on how the mind works. Sometimes monks would ask the Buddha questions that the Buddha refused to answer, saying that the question "tends not to edification." What he meant is that some questions just won't get you anywhere in terms of increasing your awareness or moving you along on the path of enlightenment.
