I've known women who got pregnant within the time that they weren't supposed to be having sex. One woman had a positive home pregnancy test 5 weeks after having her child.
Most doctors say not to have sex until your body has had time to heal. Most likely you'll be pretty sore after birth, sometimes for a few weeks or even months if you tear and sex might be uncomfortable. My doc told me 6 weeks after my son, but sex was a little uncomfortable for about 2 months afterwards, not painful, just uncomfortable.
Your period starting depends. Some women don't start for months or even a year after they give birth because they breast fed. However, there are also women who breast fed and their periods came back in 6 to 8 weeks.
You'll bleed like a very heavy period for a week or two after you give birth, but it's not considered a period, it's just your body healing.

I hope your not 4 weeks after having a baby and trying to concieve already.... listen your body needs 2 full years to get back to completely NORMAL! Some people try after 1 year but the docs told me for ideal condition is at least 2 year! You have to let your body heal before you get pregnant again or you MAY have problems with the next baby. Alot of times you will miscarry if your body is still TOO soon after having a baby... sit back and enjoy your first child before you go having another! Do it to give your first child some good quality time and for your 2nd child to have everything that it needs to grow and be healthy (in your body!)

You can have sex 5 or 6 weeks after giving birth. How soon you can conceive varies with the individual. For me, it was 9 months or more after I had a baby before I got my period again.

It all depends on ther person. Some poeple do not listen to their doctors when they say not to have for 6 weeks weeks after the baby is born. They go to their 6 week check up and they are already pregnant again...
Breastfeeding also slows down the return of the period for some people. some people get it back in the 1st month when breastfeeding, i just got my period back at 7 months postpartum.
All depends on the individual.

It's recommended that you wait 6 wks after delivery to have sex again. Most docs will get you to wait until at least they've seen you for the post partum check-up, and then advise from there for your personal situation (healing stitches, etc could mitigate that).
It is very possible to get pregnant right away again - doesn't mean it's going to happen, but yes, it's very possible - even if you are exclusively breastfeeding. Friends of ours just had their second...10 mos after their first. Oopsie!!!

You need to wait about 6 weeks due to health reasons, you can get pregnant fairly fast after having a child. I have heard of people getting pregnant after a few days after giving birth.

I would be careful. I friend of mine became pregnant 4 weeks after having her daughter. They usually say that if you are breastfeeding then you dont get your period and you cant get pregnant but Im not sure how true that is...your best bet is to call your dr's office and ask the nurse they'll be able to tell you for sure.

Well after you give birth your going to bleed for a while... maybe several weeks... I've heard of people getting pregnant 2 weeks after the gave birth... so i guess it can happen relatively fast.

I don't know what the earliest is, but I was pregnant again by my post partum visit AND I was exclusively breastfeeding and didn't have a period. You are highly fertile after your baby is born so be careful. Trust me, you don't want to be trying to raise a new baby and be pregnant if you don't have to. It's doable, but very hard.

Most doctors agree that you should wait 6 weeks to have sex and it is usually around this time that your period will return.
