Are they just incapable of accepting fact, or do they get a kick out of crying discrimination (where none exists)?

Rio, good answer, but doesn't AA correct the imbalance?
Sarah - feminist sources don't really count (National Women's Law Center) as they refuse to acknowlegde all factors, such as hours worked or suchlike.
Warren Farrel has written an entire book about this fraud - that's teh same guy who feminists loved when he was telling us how bad men were... Now he's saying "whoa, guys have issues too" - feminists suddenly don't want to know him ;o)

"According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median income for all women is about three-quarters that of men, although the results vary significantly among demographic groups. Feminist organizations and some politicians point to these statistics as evidence of the United States as a patriarchal society that discriminates against women. But a closer examination leads to a different conclusion. "
"Women's work-life patterns and their occupational preferences are significant factors in determining wages. Rather than being "funneled" into low-wage, low-prestige and part-time positions, women often choose these occupations because of the flexibility they offer. After adjusting for these factors, scholars find that the difference between men's and women's earnings is very narrow."

I guess, what I'm saying is:
Feminism knows full well that by saying "women earn 76c to mens $1" it gives a complete misrepresentation of the reality behind the 'claim'.
Why don't they word it more accurately and honestly?
The current claim implies that a woman will be paid 3/4 of what a man is paid, if they do the same job, same hours, same experience, same qualifications, and so on. Which is NOT true.
In short, the 'claim' is a misrepresentation.
It seems to me, they word it this way in order to perpetuate more anger amongst women (You're getting ripped off, by men) thus strengthening their numbers of angry women (and men who support the misrepresentation of the claim).

As I've said already, I'm asking why feminists allow the 'gap' to be misrepresented and misinterpretted. Deirdre's article also stated:
"It may not be outright gender discrimination between employees in the same job...." (which basically agrees with what I have said).
However, when the claim is simply worded "Women earn 76c to men's $1" it strongly implies men are directly favoured on merit of their sex, nothing more.
Surely feminists realise they are distorting the reality behind the claim by not expressing HOW the gap is formulated & concluded - or are they really that stupid as to not realise?
It reminds me of the petition feminists ran to have Mary Daly reinstated: They explained that a student did not fulfill one of the qualifiers for acceptance on the course, they did NOT explain the 'qualifier' was his sex... ie. feminists tried tricking ppl into signing a petition to reinstate a sexist tutor.

Although it's been mentioned several times already, the main reason is that it is part and parcel of feminism's tenet of mandatory "victimhood" if not outright "martyrdom".
Yes, many things are illegal and still those things happen but someone doesn't break into your house every day for years without it being reported to the police; the same people are not murdered every day, over and over; the same gun"person" (seems to be one place feminists don't mind politically incorrect speech) doesn't hold up the same liquor store at the same time every day, etc. If someone is being paid less or otherwise being discriminated against because of their sex, the EEOC will gladly do the footwork, supply the liars... er... lawyers, and file the charges for them.
Feminists just like to make outrageous claims because as Cassius pointed out, propaganda works today just as it did for the 20th century's original socialist democrats (Nazis). Many feminists today have no idea what the claims actually are supposed to be based upon, they just parrot what they've heard from other sexists.
Like other forms of socialism, feminism demands that women be paid for showing up, not ability. Outcome, not opportunity nor ability, is the end-all to feminists. Feminists generally are capable of accepting a fact but only the "facts" as feminists see them, not as they are but as they wish they were. They also love to whine about how discriminated against they are, even though they are not. It's really pathetic.

I honestly don't know how I feel about the wage gap issue, because I have seen so many sources that give different conflicting findings, so I don't know what to think.
However, an important thing to keep in mind is that just because a wage gap might be *illegal*, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Tons of illegal things happen in the business world and the businesses never get caught. Plus, employees don't regularly discuss how much they are making, so it's possible their might be a pay discrepancy and the employees might not even *know* it...therefore they wouldn't seek legal restitution.
Also, almost every group that has done any kind of research into the potential wage gap probably "spins" the results in their favor or selectively leaves out some things so that they get the findings they want. I'm sure the feminist groups come up with some huge wage gap, while the men's groups come up with NO wage gap, simply because (in both cases) that's what they *wanted* to find. It's very difficult to research this area without bias, since almost everyone has an opinion or agenda. I think the only way to accurately get a picture of whether or not there is a wage gap is to have the group that is doing the testing be composed of half masculists and half feminists. Then the results ought to be fair. Chances are, their results would probably be somewhere in between the results that feminists find and the results that other groups find.
Now, having said all that, there ARE sources that suggest that there is still a wage gap. So, even if there ISN'T a wage gap, feminists aren't outright lying...they're just believing the wrong sources. And, I think most humans have a tendency to believe whatever source coincides with what they WANT to believe. This is not a feminist trait, this is a human trait. The same goes for masculists who swear by sources that are clearly male-biased, though the information may be incorrect.
Bottom line: We're ALL liars, cheats, and hairless little monkeys who do everything we can to try to justify what we want to believe.

I myself believe that wage gap is nothing but a bunch of bunk.
My reasons are this and understand this comes from good common horsesense. When an employer hires a woman he has to consider many factors; among them whether or not she's married and in child-bearing years, that means an awful lot of tedious paper work and money to insurance companies. Most-likely more than he'd have to pay for a man. He'd also have to compensate for hiring and retraining someone else be it that she leaves on pregnancy leave. Now the way I see it all that money rounds up to the same thing a man is being payed and no woman can equal the labor that a man can output.

I am glad that RoVale has drawn attention to ageism in the workplace. Older people are discriminated against and such discrimination is rife. Both feminism and ageism raise their ugly heads in the workplace.
As far as the so-called 'wage gap' is concerned I agree with the questioner when he reveals that it is a lie and a fraud perpetrated by the feminist propaganda machine. Many feminists in the top echelons are in fact paid more than men. Ordinary men and women are by comparison grossly underpaid.
And the feminists do not represent women. If they indeed represent anyone then they represent only themselves. And I'm not talking about those women who rightly or wrongly think of themselves as feminists, I'm talking about the top leaders of the feminism cult who are in the business of spewing out lies and misleading propaganda.

The whole 'wage gap' is just to further justify their cause - i.e. "victims", notwithstanding the fact that it has been embarrasinsgly debunked time after time again with endless and irrefutable emperical evidence. I'm surprised that women still can't figure this basic math.
Anyway, women/feminist ignore the hours that women work and therein lies the flaw of this argument. The "wage gap" argument presupposes that men and women work the same hours but women get paid less. If this were true, any semi-intelligent graduate from a mediocre business school would hire only women and immediately become the lowest cost producer in their market segment. Within a few years, they would become richer than Gates and Buffet combined. Something that hasn't happened and never will because the premise is flawed.

Because Feminist will literally cave at the sight of facts and logic and then we all know what BS excuse is coming next: The Patriarchy, which is no more real than Santa or that monster under your bed.
I can't count how many studies have debunked the wage gap theory and proven that while it does exist it's not for the reasons of "me man and I hate woman so you get less pay". To answer your question they won't accept the fact because that's one of their biggest weapons to prove everybody hates women and are out to get them. They need to spread their lies and propaganda and the so called wage gap helps them do it.

By the simplest reckoning--comparing the wages of all men to the wages of all women--it is true, afaik.
I agree that we should be looking at the question in a more nuanced way. But even doing so, men *still* have about a 5% advantage.

There is a lot of discrimination in the workplace and it's not just with women. It's also with older people. You would think that being an older woman would make you more desirable (many years of working experience, little or no chance of quitting a job to raise a family, and no going on maternity leave) but the truth is this is a very youth-oriented society. Most employers would rather hire an inexperienced young person straight out of college than an older person who knows the ropes. It's like age and experience is not valued in our society and that's too bad. The truth is that some of you who are denying that discrimination exists really don't know what you're talking about. You think that just because you have never experienced it personally, it doesn't exist.
