always want to hear the bad news first. this way when the better news surfaces there is a brighter light to look forward to. as a supervisor whenever I had to " talk to " a co-worker about unsatisfactory work I did so. however, after talking with them about whatever was unsatisfactory I always had a compliment about something they were doing in a positive manner. this provided them with a positive ending to the discussion.

Good it sets the tone and then you can prepare yourself for the worse as if I hear the bad I will take it in more and not think so much into the good.
