You know....the inflation that didn't exist and was absolutely in check? Do they know the real reason why the commercial paper was failing as well? Or do they care to ever really admit the real reason?

Because the credit card companies don't want to lose 85% of their accounts to bankruptcy.
Right now more than 80% of all credit card holders have huge debts near impossible to pay off. If the banks did not revive the credit market and started calling those debts, they would lose all the money held in credit debt to bankruptcy, and the credit cards companies would go bankrupt themselves and collapse.
They just can't do that any more than American companies want to lower their prices and make their stock options drop.
