Well if people would look into modern native life styles they'd see that life on a reservation isn't much different then life out side. You live in a house you have a job kids go to school. On a reservation there's more native pride. Just like any other small community.
I am native from North-West Washington. I don't live on the reservation anymore but my family still does. My step-mom taught me how to weave. She does a lot of beading. My Father carves native artworks. My Uncle smokes fish. People come from all over the world to see and experience the culture. No one lives in Tee pees or Long houses. There just people trying to live their lives trying to hold on to a few of the old traditions.

The Third-World conditions in which some Native Americans live is heart-wrenching... so obviously you guys who have answered here do not know the real conditions that many Native Americans are living. Native Americans do not riot or demand, or dominate the news with their every action... because they are kind, patient people who choose to remain on the tiny portions of land allotted to them by the US Government. Most of them live in housing with no plumbing in this day & time...Nearly a third of all Native American families with children live in poverty.

This reminds me of a Far Side comic where the native people are hiding their t.v.s and VCRs and crying out "Anthropologist!"

I especially detest the broken English from old movies. I am Native American and got straight A's in both high school and college, which means I probably speak better English than racist people who don't think I matter.

I work and live near many aboriginals, and yes, there is some fundamental ignorance (still!!) regarding these people. Terrible, but then again, there is sheer ignorance towards any peoples who do not have ancestors from Europe.
