I was told this morning that an old wive's tale that is pretty true to form is one that before you are due to give birth your nose swells/. I came into work this AM and a cuple of the gals i work with commented that I must be gonna have the baby soon b/c my nose had swollen. No I haven't hit a door or anythign it apparently just did this all of it's own. They both swear it's true so i am just wondering how true is this?

lol as for with my first one i unfortunately got to miss all the joys of labor. I was induced 2 weeks early so I never really got to the whole water breaking thing. I haven't swollen or gaine dmuch weight anywhere except the belly. My nose has been it's normal size until apparently this am!!! lol I am not due until Nov 22 hwoever she is already in position and my Dr thinks that b/c my family has a history of going early and I was early with my 1st one I could indeed go as early as a month sooner

Old wives' tales are just that, tales. Fiction. Fantasy. They mean nothing. Your kid is looking between his legs because he knows he has something there. Kids are curious, and that's that. Believing in those wives' tales is like believing that Rapunzel and the Frog Prince were real, they're BS.

ROFLMFAO! I have never heard that before but it is pretty funny! I would say its about as correct as any other old wives tale, and maybe in 25% of women their nose swells but for the most part, that has nothing to do with it! hahahaha! I know desperate times call for desperate measures so here are some more wives tales of how to bring on labor:
having sex
taking castor oil
Drinking red raspberry leaf tea
sitting in a hot bath and stimulating your nipples
etc...

But I tried all except the castor oil one and nothing worked. That baby isnt coming out until he/she says so! Good luck!

Nah--not that true. Most Old Wives Tales are for a conveince factor. BUT there's no way to really say when you'll go into labor.

My nose started to swell and it took 3 weeks before I gave birth.

That is a load of BS. Sure some women have swollen noses during pregnancy due to hormones, but it by no means signifies that you will go into labor anytime soon.

In Washington St. I have never heard of a large nose when near delivery.
But the old people and their ways have always interested me.
They survived by their wits, observations and ingenuity.
boy oh boy, have I ever learned from old ways of doing things, cures of all kinds (animals and humans) to how they did every thing.
If we had to go back 150 years and survive like they had to , how many of us would be able to survive?
cool question you ask. P.S. A darling girl is about to have a great mom.

I have heard the tale... And my nose did indeed get bigger the last couple of wks of my first pregnancy. But it wasn't within 48 hours or anything. In fact, I was induced... but it is a sign (I think) that your body is welling with extra fluids preparing to have the baby.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

I have never heard that one before. I have heard tho that when you are about to give birth, you get an urge to clean your home a lot. Kind of nesting instinct, I guess.

Good luck on the birth.

well honestly i do know ppl that have had there nose swell when they were pregnant. But it was early on in the pregnancy and do not believe that it means that you are going to have the baby soon.

Well there is only one way to be sure and thats see if you are dialating or your cervix has softened. You might even be able to feel if the baby has moved into birthing position.
