My family has a small bookstore. We had a sale so we could get rid of the books that have been there for a while. Well, there are quite a few left that we don't want to keep in the store (lack of room and such). I know about "books for soldiers" but that's more for adult books.Where can I donate the rest of the books (like teen and children books)?

Most are used and sort of old so schools and libraries wouldn't want them. Thrift stores in my area don't sell books, so that's not an option.

While they may be older and paperback, if they are still readable, you may be surprised that teachers will eagerly scoop up your books if you offer them. Most teachers have classroom libraries and are always looking for quality (content-wise) books for their students. Just call the main office at a nearby elementary school -- if the person who answers the phone is not sure what to do with your offer, ask to speak to the media specialist, who should be in closer contact with all the teachers in the school.

Good luck!

You say that the libraries wouldn't want them. Ask them anyway. You might be surprised at what they do want. I know my library takes the books people donate to them that they don't want to put on the shelves and have an annual book sale to raise money for the library. Ask yours if they might do the same.

Try having a yard sale. Stack the books neatly in a box and charge 5 cents for each one. Sometime, that works better than just giving them away. Good luck! Grams

Try local Goodwill or something along those lines. Habitat for Humanity also will take books in addition to other things to give away. Also, they may be used and old, but a school may take them not to stock them, but to give them away. You might want to ask and see. Worst case scenario they say no, but its really no skin off your nose to check.

try a used book store. There's one called edward mckays. They sell older things, they also have a free section. You get store credit or cash for things.

Try donating them to a children's hospital, or maybe daycare centers.
