do you care about Halloween anymore?

Halloween was always my favorite holiday. I still dress up and decorate. Unfortunately I do feel it is dying, because I'm seeing it die, here in Illinois anyway. When I lived with my parents, every year less kids came to our house(we gave good candy out and had some of the best decorations in the neighborhood). My parents got about 5 trick or treaters last year, in a neighborhood where more young families with kids are moving into every year. There are even more kids in my old neighborhood than there ever has been, yet there are less of them trick or treating.

They moved the trick or treating time to 4:30pm in my area, when the sun hasn't even gone down yet. So I think that might even contribute to the lack of kids. Who wants to go trick or treating in the afternoon when it's sunny out?

Now in my college town, I think I saw a total of 3 trick or treaters last year, even though I live in a residential area. I even drove all over town and saw hardly any kids. Nobody even came to my door at the three places I lived.

I remember Halloweens when I was a kid, where I had to wait in a line for candy at most of the houses I went to. Kids would be flooding the neighborhoods. Now it's like there's maybe 2 or 3 kids on a block, and you won't see any more for a long time. I'm sure there's more kids in suburban places with lots of young families, but not in average sized towns, from what I've been seeing.

I even feel like stores have been carrying less Halloween decorations and costumes in recent years. It seems like the threat and paranoia of poisonous candy with needles inside(even though there are only a couple accounts of this happening), religious crazies(who don't know that xmas has as many pagan themes as Halloween) that keep their kids from trick or treating and tell everyone in their church not to celebrate it, and I feel that less people even care about it anymore.

Halloween has been being attacked by the news and urban myths so much in the past 10 years, which makes over protective parents afraid to let their kids celebrate an actually safe and fun holiday.

Sure people still hand out candy and decorate, but by the thousands every year, statistics are showing that less and less kids are trick or treating.

Hell yeah! I love Halloween and even though I'm 24, I dress up in sexy Halloween costumes every year and celebrate with my boyfriend and Friends. I love the holidays but I know that a lot of people don't anymore. It's not only Halloween, it seems like every year a lot less houses are decorated for Christmas too :(

I love Halloween. I'm 37 and have 2 kids - the house is decorated etc - and I will be baking goodies next week. I've heard Halloween is still the second most popular with the most money spent - (behind Christmas of course)

Sure, I do! It seems to me that these days, there is more to do for grown-ups on Halloween than there is for kids. All my friends and I still dress up in elaborate costumes and hit the town the weekend before (or Hallo-weekend, as I like to call it.) Then on the actual night, my BF and I take his little cousins trick-or-treating. It's a good time!

I think you have it wrong. It has actually been a growing holiday for a while now, at least in the US. It has also become very popular in recent years in parts of western Europe. It's second to Christmas when it comes to decorating. Costumes alone are a billion dollar industry. I wouldn't call that dying. See this article for some statistics:

Halloween is fun for all the ages. If your a kid going door to door with friends and getting some free candy or when your an adult hitting the clubs, bars and parties and you still find yourself trying to get some *candy*

No way it's dying! I love it now even more than I did when I was a kid, because now I get to do what I want, be what I want and decorate how I want.
I hope I win this contest for my Homemade Costume too!! :-)
