I've never used this particular section of Y/A . So I'm curious as to just how serious are the responses . Well , only one way to find out huh ?!

The following is a deep song written by Roger Waters of Pink Floyd . Waters is well-known for his deep lyrics and insight . . . at least from his perspective .
Here are the lyrics to 'The Final Cut' . But I would also suggest linking to the song in order to listen to it as well as you offer your thoughts on its meaning .

The Final Cut (Waters)

Through the fish-eyed lens of tear stained eyes
I can barely define the shape of this moment in time
And far from flying high in clear blue skies
I'm spiraling down to the hole in the ground where I hide.

If you negotiate the minefield in the drive
And beat the dogs and cheat the cold electronic eyes
And if you make it past the shotgun in the hall,
Dial the combination, open the priesthole
And if I'm in I'll tell you what's behind the wall.

There's a kid who had a big hallucination
Making love to girls in magazines.
He wonders if you're sleeping with your new found faith.
Could anybody love him
Or is it just a crazy dream?

And if I show you my dark side
Will you still hold me tonight?
And if I open my heart to you
And show you my weak side
What would you do?
Would you sell your story to Rolling Stone?
Would you take the children away
And leave me alone?
And smile in reassurance
As you whisper down the phone?
Would you send me packing?
Or would you take me home?

Thought I oughta bare my naked feelings,
Thought I oughta tear the curtain down.
I held the blade in trembling hands
Prepared to make it but just then the phone rang
I never had the nerve to make the final cut.

Robert - Yes , I grew up there and at that very time too . It was done by Steve Dahl and Garry Meier . All in all it's just another kid in the crawl .
Spooky days they were . Think about it , what 16 yr. old kid wouldn't want a high paying construction job where the boss bought beer and pot ?

NOOOOOOOOOO!!! Absolutely not. This is about the worst place you could go to try and find a philosophical answer to any question. While Yahoo Answers does have a philosophy section it used mostly for questions along the lines of what came first, the chicken or the egg. A Pink Floyd question is even worse. Any question concerning Pink Floyd has drug related answers.

Pink Floyd questions on this site look something like this:

Wht do u thnk of wen u heer thw wrd pink floyd?
acid
shrooms
smokin teh grass

Do u lik the floyd?
ther great whn ure stoned
they suk
that song the wall pt 2 is lik awsome

Is pink floyd a man or woman
hes like a man
dude u tried listnin to that stuf when ure tripin duuuuude
idk that band is awefulll

This is probably not exactly what you are looking for. As for your question concerning The Final Cut I will dissect it layer by layer.

The song was originally taken from The Wall. Hence the direct mention of The Wall in the song(Waters however not wanting people to associate the song with a previous album chose to cover the line with a shotgun blast). It fits in perfectly with the story of The Wall. As far as storyline goes, I have always seen it as the ultimate low point for Pink. He is trapped behind his own wall. Things are getting steadily worse for him. Though he realizes that he needs to, "bare his naked feelings" and, "tear the curtain down" he instead resorts to suicide. However the phone rings and saves him. There is also a lot of Waters in this song. He directly mentions his divorce in paragraph four. Finally thematically this song is not entirely difficult to interpret. It is a theme that is displayed in The Wall as well. That isolation, refusing to let others in for lack of a better word leads to trouble. To the surfacing of "bad thoughts" or as they are referred to in The Wall "worms". Note that it is the phone, a means of COMMUNICATION that stops him from committing suicide. In summation the song simply states that isolating yourself from others does not isolate yourself from the problem, but merely makes it worse.

Ha!
Yeah, this is about the worst site for any sign of intelligence whatsoever. You can spell things out and painstakingly prove your point without leaving any room for error and your answer will be ignored for either being too long or making peoples’ heads hurt.
Don't expect to get any of those answers though. Like I said before, there's not much thought going on here. I’m here for the amusement.
Emu381 and I (genkaku) are just about all the help you’ll get in this concern.

Hmmmm… As for the analysis of the Final Cut… I think that you have to listen to the entire album to really appreciate it. And you need a bit of background research. Originally, the song was meant to be placed in The Wall (hence the gunshot covering the lyrics “the wall” in the album). Because of this, most of it has to do with the story. In short, Pink is going through the final stages of his decadence. Feeling completely abandoned, isolated, and losing the last bits of reality, he’s attempting suicide (by cutting his wrists, the final cut), but is interrupted and unprepared. There’s an awful lot of Roger Waters coming through as well (the confusion and mourning his lost love).

No this is a bad place for such. Anyways...

They say that suicide is the only philosophical question and all other philosophical questions are mere afterthoughts. This is the main thyme of the song. Then there is the acceptance issue. Sounds like she worked hard to find out what was on the inside and then ran away scared. So buddy is debating killing himself and his sadness is distorting his thinking.

Thinks this question would go better in the poetry section?

Did you ever hear "Another Brick in the Wall" as sung by a couple of DJ's in Chicago years ago? When they sing...."hey, teacher, leave those kids alone. He changed it to..."hey, Gacy, leave those kids alone!" It was right after John Wayne Gacy was arrested after murdering all those young men in the Chicago area.
