My friend is currently in pharmacy school and says he is bound to make around $100,000 after he gets out. I was wondering what a Dr. of Pharmacy does differently than say a Pharmacuetical Technician that supports paying them much more money. Do they have more liability or something. Not ment to offend any Dr. of Pharmacy I just want to know. Thanks.

A pharmacy technician is someone who assists the pharmacist. Pharmacy technicians only are required to complete a short training course (if even that) and are not educated in drug interactions, side effects, etc. A pharmacist must go to school for at least 5 years. The pharmacist is responsible for ensuring that the correct medication is dispensed and for ensuring there are no serious drug interactions with medications a patient is taking. Sometimes, pharmacists catch drug interactions that a doctor might not catch. Pharmacists are also responsible for properly dispensing controlled medications and narcotics. Once they have graduated from pharmacy school, they are still required to attend continuing education courses yearly to keep their license.

The pharmacist has all the liability for every prescription which comes through during his/her shift. The pharmacist can counsel patients. A pharm tech cannot because most of the time, they don't understand the why.
Depending on the state, pharmacists can give immunizations or prescribe on protocol.
In Illinois, the minimum requirements to be a pharmacist is to have either a PharmD or an old B.Pharm degree. You have to pass NAPLEX and MJPE. Upon licensure, you'll need 30 CE hours every 2 years.
Pharm techs do not need any formal education. Upon passage of the new Pharmacy Practice Act, techs will be required to be certified within 2 years of being licensed.

A pharmacist is responsible for drug information. They counsel patients on the use of their medications. It is not labor intensive at all. It is very easy however dealing with people and 3rd parties may be the worst of them all. Check out http://www.pre-pharm.info if you want to become a pharmacist yourself.

They are responsible for the distribution of controlled substances. If they weren't paid enough, some yahoo off the street could bribe them into selling that person illegal substances. And since they're salary sucks, they might do it. Just a thought.
