They want to know when the next "free food, loads of booze" will be...

I had my aunts ask me that question for over 10 years. I would start dating a person, and get that question after 1 month...... From your nickname, I asume you are hispanic, such as myself, and you know, hitting 30 and unmarried is not very well seen in some cultures, la quedada...

I taught them a lesson though, I quit my job, and spent all my savings on a 3 month trip to Europe... Then they said "how lucky you are", I said "no, I can still do this because I am single". Then they understood my reasons for being single so long didn't have much to do with not being able to find someone, just that I had things to do before committing.

I'm not an annoying relative that asks that same question over and over again, I get asked that question ALL the time, it's probably because the relationship has last so long and marriage would be the next step. It stopped with me telling the person(s) that there was no way in hell was I EVER going to get married. Why would I want to be in an institution for the mentally insane! LOL! Marriage can make you very ill or even worse....DEATH! But then again that depends on how the person(s) feel about the BIG 'M". YIKES! It scares me.

Because the social expectation is to get married and have kids. Look around - how many people do you know who had never been married and have no children? The majority does - so anything that is perceived to be a deviation from "the norm" raises questions. It's a part of living in a society, sorry to break it to you.

1. because marriages are big events. we want to know because it means babies will be coming, and we have to buy a dress for the wedding. it is a sign of a certain progression in your relationship.
2. instead of being annoyed, try a standard answer:
"I'll tell you as soon as I know" or
"There are no such plans" or
"I wish I knew that" or
"I guess you'll know if you get an invitation" or
"Don't hold your breath" or
"We'll let you know if we every do" or
something that works for you.

This drove me freaking crazy too! I guess they can't think of anything else to talk about so they ask stupid sh*t like that. I'm in fact married now so the question I get is "when are YOU going to have a baby??" Apparently, it will never end.

I never got asked that question by family...but I got married at 27. That question doesn't usually start being asked until you are 30 and up.

Now the question is "when are you going to have kids?" Imagine their shock when I say NEVER because my husband and I don't want any!

Oh I remember these questions... before I finally got married they asked it in every family meeting... now they ask: When will you have another baby?
... It is annoying... why can’t they mind their own business???
I am polite and do not interfere in others people private things... and I have better things to do than putting my nose in others peoples affairs.
Boring life = Stupid questions and silly gossip about others… just to avoid to think about own misery-

Tell your family you are gay, that should shut them up.
Or tell them you see what marriage is like and you want nothing to do with it.
Look up the divorce rate and tell them.

Marriage is not all that!! I have a sister that has been with her guy for over 20 years now and they have two kids, oldest is gosh 17-18 now. We also see that our mothers marriage is offal (our father passed on and she remarried a looser), so our mother does not say anything about marriage to us...... anymore anyhoo LOL!

its because they want to get a good part in it aka bridesmaid or best man or groom or something

other than that they are either nosey, insensitive, unaware of their bad sense of humour? or just trying to pressure you into it before a "rival" relative gets there first or has a better ceremony than you.

families can get surprisingly competitive when it comes to events like these....

but yeah its very annoying!

They just want everyone in the family to be as miserable as they are LOL.
I heard it for 6 years after I turned 18. My stock answer was "When sh it becomes the international currency world wide."
