I liked all the answers given so far.
A wise old man was asked that question and his reply was:
Life is travail
That's a word not many of us use. It simply means "work"
When you think of it it makes sense. We get up in the morning and work to be neat and clean for the day, then we work at our daily tasks and come home to work in the garden. To those who go and pay hoops or golf or ball one could say that is a type of work (using mall those muscles).
The stangest thing I've oberved over nearly a century is that many people slave away all their lives and get very rich, only to GIVE away their money.
One man in my city worked until 83 and made a pile of money. He died recently and left his school here $16 million to build a library. The library is built now and is beautiful.
Another man I knew with no eeducation worked in a factory for 45 years. His total life savings was less than $25,000 but in his will he left it to THE FACTORY where he had worked.
The best thing I'be read about life is :
Life is like a mirror. If you stand in front of it and smile, it will smile right back at you. Ron

Even though most people look down on this outlook as self-centred, gluttonous and even at times immoral, I have always subscribed to a philosophy of hedonism. Basically, this means that I devote my life to pleasure. For really, is there any better aspect of life? Now don't get me wrong, most people hear the word hedonist and assume it implys merely to sexual activities. That is completely wrong. The pleasure can come from any field, in any form; physical or mental. There are many forms of hedonism that vary in what activities they stress, such as Cyrenaicism, which stresses immediate gratification or Epicureanism, which stresses preparing for future happiness and finding pleasure in calmness and tranquility. My outlook involves trying to find pleasure in every activity I preform. Reading a good book, enjoying a fine meal (or even a not-so-fine meal that still tastes wonderful), pondering philosophical ideas, socializing, even menial everyday chores. It does not need to be egocentric either. You can devote yourself to activities that make other people happy aswell, just as long as doing that activity will give you some semblance of gratification. If you can find even one aspect of it that you enjoy then any activity you preform can be pleasurable. Thus, a hedonistic lifestyle can be had by almost anyone, for it truly depends not on the events and activities in your life (though an abundance of your time really should be devoted to doing things that have the main purpose of making you happy) , but rather though your own personal outlook and ability to see the good and pleasurable side to all things and people. What more could you want in life?

It is about finding yourself and living life to the max no matter what others say or think. If one relies on other's opinions for actions one has become dependent on others to fufill his/her life completely. It is also about moral responsibilty and individual achievement again through living life to the fullest.
