What a great question! I love Halloween and the challenge of making my own decorations. No store bought decorations in my house. But here goes:

Buy some cheap plastic table cloths in plastic from the dollar store. Cover your windows by making "drapes" with the tablecloths. The look will darken the room. Inside the drapes, make a window scene, as if you were looking out the window to a gloomy scene of a full moon onto a graveyard or delapidated mansion.

Make creepy ice cubes. Freeze plastic bugs or worms in your icecube trays. And serve your drinks with these cubes.

More on the plastic glove idea. Instead of plain water, add a drop of green food coloring to the water inside the glove and freeze. The greenish colored frozen hands look great in the punch. Freeze green gatorade instead of water. This works great too. Dont forget to put on a ring on one of the fingers before you put it in the punch.

Make a pitcher of wine punch. Add a sign to it and call it, "Whine Ghouler". Why not add a laugh or two?

Here's an idea: Buy inexpensive styrofoam ceiling tiles from your home store and make tombstones. Cut the tops of the tiles to an oval shape, its easy to do with just a box cutter. I used artist's charcoal to write the names and epitaphs on them. The charcoal can be blended and shaded to add depth to the lettering, and also gives a deep grey color to the stones. Then lightly spray paint the stones in stone grey. Place your stones along your walkway or in your front yard.
The names I used were of past characters from spooky movies. Then to make graves in front of the stones, spread over some straw. Dont forget to add a drop or two of fake blood on the stones. A hint of red blood adds to a chilling effect.

Turn all your mirrors to the wall and hang black cloth over them. After all, Dracula could not look into a mirror.

Have a fun and spooky Halloween.

Go to your local dollar store and spend 40 bucks on decorations .. go get a red or green light bulb ... burn a CD of scary sounds and Halloween music ... and last but not least go on line and find Halloween recipe ideas ... you can also find games that you can play on line ... just google Halloween games for adults.

Good luck ..

Halloween is my favorite holiday, I particularly like blind folding people and running them thru some kind of spooky place, I use skinned grapes for eyeballs sloppy spaghetti as worms, raw liver as brains, unbalanced walkways so they feel of kilter. I Still love to bob for apples, spooky violin music and things that make unexpected noises or movements controlled by motion detectors ( like the talking frogs you find in peoples gardens or the talking fish ).
All the food should be the wrong color if not all orange and black, pumpkin carving or painting contests, costume contests all add to the hype. Be sure all your jokes are SAFE but good taste can and often does go out the window for this Holiday. If I can think of any more things I have done or used I will edit them in .........
OH I FORGOT< spider webs, especially in dim lit places, something that will startle them when they go in the bathroom....

Idea 1: Put red plastic wrap or cellophane over the windows and put a light outside the window. (make sure the light isn't too strong) or have the room lit with candles. Be careful! Idea 2: Get a clear plastic shower curtain and paint a creepy sillhouette on it in black paint, and put that in front of a glass sliding door or window, and have a timed light behind it, so the light will go on and off. Perhaps have a sound effect that goes off in sync with the light too?

A cheap and easy way is simple! Here's a few tips and tricks for scary decorations! Get a rubber glove and fill it with water. Put 3 drops of dye in the rudder glove and stick a paddle pop stick in to the glove and tie it up. Put it in the freezer and wait till the water freezers. Take it out and cut the rubber off the outside. You will have a red hand. Each time somebody gets to you're door get somebody to poke it down their shirt. For you're outfit get some red paint and paint it on you're knees! For you're face put white paint all over you're face then paint you're nose red and paint you're lips red and make them puffy. Get some black paint and paint the outlines of you're eye paint a moustache and two vampire teeth paint like skeletons bones. You can also make a picture of a dead man that is being hung! Thankyou for listening
