Give the guitarist and their band as well. And trust me, there are good guitarists right now.

Alvin Lee fomerly of Ten Years after, yes he's still playing. He was a guitar virtuoso 35 yrs. ago,was called The Fastest Fingers in the West and imagine how much more his skills have been honed by today. I saw him with Ten Years After at Keil Auditorium in St. Louis in 71. J. Geils played first and tore the place up. They were unknown at the time. Then Ten Years After proceeded to wreck havoc. Alvin Lee did this thing with the microphone stand, using it as a slide, then slowly began to tune his strings down until it was a low, low growl then he did a progression of a classical bent tuning his big red Gibson until he was back in tune with the song he had been playing. It was mesmerizing.

I'm going to refrain from answering here simply because most of the guitarist that I recognize as being exceptional have been playing since at least the 80s. Of the new breed of axe slingers (of course, they don't call them that anymore), the only one that I can even name is DJ Ashba of Beautiful Creatures and Sixx AM, and certainly wouldn't call him the best at anything.

I'd have to nominate Mark Tremonti from Creed and Alter Bridge. Before you all start laughing, you should see some of the solos this guy pulls off. On the 2 albums by Alter Bridge he does some really killer riffs including some of Zakk Wylde's trademark sounds. In concert I saw him do a 4 minute guitar solo that I would only expect to see from some of the greats. I think he's the best guitarist to emerge in the last 10 years.
