whether pertaining to illegal spying on americans, torture, or perhaps pushing for a war that they knew was not justified. I am not saying they have. I am saying IF ...IF it was proven that a democratic led or a republican led presidency ever did such a thing, would you as a citizen be willing to wink and nod and say..."well at least they were doing it to make us feel safe" wink, and say forget about it..lets move on?

Or do you think that regardless of the party that committed such acts, those guilty should be punished to the fullest extent of our laws..as an example to any other future would be or wanna be tyrants?

Well, if someone were found to have broken laws or violated the constitution, then they would be impeached.

If this hasn't happened, especially if there just happens to be a majority in say the House and/or Senate from another party, then could it be possible that nobody has determined that spying was illegal? or that there was torture that violated laws or that the war was not justified???

Do you know exactly the law that would make such spying illegal? And details of that spying as to it's applicability under a law? Or are you just repeating what the clearly biased (on both sides) talking heads on TV are saying without having any personal knowledge, legal or otherwise, to the situations presented?

The biggest question to ask is...IF there just happened to be a majority in the House and/or Senate from maybe a different party, then if the "statements" you made as to illegality had any basis, wouldn't you expect that majority to do more than just run their mouths in front of TV cameras for political gain? Like maybe they would initiate articles of impeachment?

Its really fascinating to read answers to such a patriotic question.

You ask basically whether anyone regardless of party has a right to run roughshod over our laws, our trust, our constitution. You would think this is a question that 99.99% of americans would clearly answer the same way---that no one is above the law. But its fascinating to see how many americans either think its ok to violate the constitution and break laws, or only look at things from a biased point of view. Since they think you are talking about their guy in office, they don't even have the decency of rejecting the vile acts you describe.

If the issues inflamed the sensibilities of the people and were specific to the world or domestic political situation at the time, then yes they should be prosecuted.

Caveat....No law can take into account all circumstance therefore no person should be prosecuted for violating the letter of the law.

For example the constitution says "Only Congress can Declare War". What if some country shoots missiles at us, which means we would have 15 minutes to go to war, activate and deploy anti missile forces and retaliate.

Congress couldn't convene and draft a declaration of war in that time, so the president would have to declare war in violation of the constitution.

So yes, depending on the circumstances surrounding the violation.

Can be regardless of party.
If a democrat does it we have to a trail and investigation. Than a plea of sympathy from the democrat because he did it for the children.

A republican does it or doesn't do it just make the charge and he is guilty and needs to be hung on the spot without question or trail or the thought he maybe innocent.

Whether you like to admit it or not, our leaders do break the law. It could be as little as prostitution to illegal contributions. But just because they are elected officials doesn't mean they should get off with a slap on their wrist. They should be punished just like every other person in the country if they had done the same crime.

It has been proven and there are people out there winking and turning their heads and looking the other way. We NEED to follow our laws and punish those responsible.

If sufficient laws were broken then impeachment should be looked at as an option. Once that is done then any prosecution for those crimes that is appropriate should be moved on. The problem is that in all likelihood the President or new President would pardon the offender..........

I asked this question about a week ago and got very little positive response mostly political replies. My opinion if they did order it of have knowledge of it happening they should be sent to the deepest darkest cell in the country

It would certainly be depressing to me.

You are talking about imposing punishment on the President for doing those things. Punished by whom? You ought to talk about impeachment first.
