Get the model number and go look up the part breakdown at www.needlawnmowerparts.com. Get the number under the seat of the machine. There are many different mowers and they are not all the same. you can see how the belt goes on at this site or get live help to find what you need.

Are you talking about a tractor type mower or a rear engine? For the tractor types who almost always have to remove the mower deck just to have room to work. On many mowers there is a diagram showing how the belts is routed. I have seen the diagrams under the hood and also under the foot rest area. If the belt is still on, take a minute to look at how it is routed. You could even take a picture or two. Take the deck off and get the mower up so you can work on it and it will be easy.
