virtual memory is a pre-determined amount of hard drive space, used solely to read/write during complex processing when the actual physical amount of R.A.M is insufficient.

RAM is the physical amount of memory the computer has. But because programs and data has become more sophisticated, virtual ram is used. Basically, it is using a part of a hard disc as if it were memory. Because disc access is a lot slower than physical access, when you start loading several programs into the computer you will notice that the computes is slow.
If it were not for virtual ram, you would get a 'memory full' error message pretty often.

Virtual ram is the computer using some hard drive space for its memory requirements because the real RAM is not available.
RAM -random access memory- is the memory available for computing. It is in the memory "chips"
Today's Vista systems are so memory hungry that they do best with 2 gigabytes of RAM memory.

I don't know dude, but I think VIRTUAL RAM is made by your computer to make it think it has that RAM
Then RAM is the actual RAM you have jammed up you computer.
just my point of view dude...
