I'm 20yrs old and all my life i've had hard times with stuttering. i have tried speech teachers and even tried slowing my speach down. i've tried numerous times in saying the words in my head before speaking them and nothing seems to work. im a junior in college now and lately its gotten so bad that im actually horrified to talk to anyone. is there a pill or another method i can use to semi-eliminate my stuttering?

My uncles and cousins who stuttered got the book "Self Therapy for the Stutterer" by The Stuttering Foundation of America. It is in their estore, on Amazon.com, and at some public libraries.

There is a medication, pagoclone, that is in Phase III of trial studies that shows promise. You can sign up to try it here http://www.indevus.com/site/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=53&Itemid=58

A person's abnormal condition, like stuttering, can be due to inadequate physical development or psychological. A speech expert can diagnose which one. If it is physical, then science has a solution for it. Stuttering is not a new disease or condition. It has been with the modern man for as long as he lives. If it is psychological, a psychiatrist can conduct test, like hypnotism, or evaluate the person's past and present situation and environment that is causing this nervous manifestation. When the cause is determined, the solution can be made. And the person can manage his behaviour to consciously check himself from stuttering. The message is consult the proper specialist for this condition.

No there isn't a pill but there are various ways to try to manage the condition some of which you seemed to have tried. There is an excellent site from the The British Stammerers Association which may give some pointers. It is obviously focused on the UK but may be helpful generally.

It happened to me several years back. my mom told me to THINK before I want to say anything about what I'm saying. And it worked. Give it a try, it might work for you too:)
