We are dealing with a landlord who has not provided a lease and are concerned that not having one affects our rental history, which in turn will hurt our credit history, when we decide to buy a house in the future. We would like to use this argument to convince the landlord to provide a lease, among many other reasons.

Landlords seldom report your payment history to credit bureaus and rarely even report slow pays or deadbeats. Only the largest landlords, those that own multiple large properties, ever report to the credit bureaus.

About the only thing that will affect your credit record would be an eviction. That would hurt, quite a bit. If a landlord sued you for back rents or damage to the property, that judgment would also show up on your credit report.

Whether you have a lease or not isn't going to have any affect you your credit rating.

Not having a lease does not affect your credit history in any way. Landlords do not report timely payments to a credit bureau. The only time you would see anything from a landlord on a credit report is if you failed to pay rent or were sued for damages. Your time to demand a lease should of been dealt with before you moved in. You can't force the landlord to give you a lease after the fact.

today everything effects your credit..from rental to your water bill. there is a very sneaky and I feel unlawful pratice of credit card companies that look for you to miss a payment not with them but with the water bill or electric bill and if you are late they have it in there contract that they can raise your interest rate to it's highest rate!!..so first of all never use a credit card for pleasure but emergencys and try to pay all your bills on time. They are wqtching and they love to charge you more for any reason they can. And bad credit means they charge you more in everything you try to buy on time.

you dont need a lease...your month to month...pay your rent on time, and dont give him a reason to take you to court when you move out....no judgements, no marks against you on your credit.............
