Because all matter is composed of atoms, the number of neutrons and protons in each atom must be equal.

TRUE or FALSE

I think TRUE for the second part but the first part with the "Because all matter is composed of atoms..." is confusing me!!! Is that WHY they are equal??? I hate these type of questions!!

False, the number of protons defines the element. One element can have many isotopes with different numbers of neutrons.

This statement is most definitely false. There are many atoms which do not have equal number of neutrons and protons.

All matter is made up of atoms, true, but the atom does not necessarily have an equal number of neutrons and protons.

Take for example lead. From the periodic table, lead has a proton number (aka atomic number) of 82, but, it has 125 neutrons. This number is calculated from the relative atomic mass of lead minus the number of protons.

It is FALSE. For some atoms it can occur but it is false when the atomic number is over 9, the number of protns are usually lower than that of neutrons instable isotopes

False.
Hint: look up the details of 1 or more isotopes..
