I think the majority of them want to pull Ron-Paul-supporters into the camps of their candidate so that they feel more confident that their candidate - typically a "front-runner" like Thompson or Romney, and sometimes Rudy - will win the nomination and go on to defeat Hillary in the general election. These pleas to give it up or "get a grip on reality" are mostly out of their fear that Hillary will become President. While Hillary being President would be terrible, I'd rather her win and force the Republican party to return to its core values - lower spending, lower taxes, less government intervention - than, once again, elect the "lesser of two evils." Not all of the other candidates are necessarily "evil" - I think Huckabee, Hunter, Tancredo, and Richardson would make excellent candidates - but I agree the most with Ron Paul's platform and from everything I've read or heard that I can research myself, his voting record backs up his platform.

For starters, he is in favor of vetoing anything in violation of the 10th amendment, which requires that any powers not specifically granted to the Federal government actually belong to the states. Things like a Federal income tax, Federal gun laws, Federal drug laws, Education, etc. are supposed be left to the individual states and are unconstitutional when enforced on a Federal level. He is in favor of a full audit of the Federal Reserve, and its eventual removal entirely. Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution states that the power to coin money belongs to Congress. The Federal Reserve is in violation of the Constitution because only Congress is granted the power to coin money and regulate its value. It also states that only Congress has the power to declare war. Ron Paul opposes undeclared wars which are illegal according to the Constitution. Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan - all have been illegal and unconstitutional. Only a Congressional declared war would be allowed under the Constitution. Ron Paul also opposes the Patriot Act and the NDAA, both of which are violations of the 4th Amendment of the Constitution. The 4th Amendment protects citizens from searches and property seizures, which Patriot and NDAA have compromised. There is a lot more that others can probably articulate much better than me.

To answer your main question, it is because each person is an individual and draws their personal opinions. They therefore expressed it.

Truth to tell I do not understand what your quotations from Thomas Jefferson has anything to do with your question. Though they are wise and insightful statements.

In any case the people of these great United States will make the final decision of our next candidates, and the next President in '08. Everything else is just here-say.

Just make sure you go out and vote, every vote counts.

Christoper made a great comment: without media exposure he is invisible to most people.
The liberal mainstream media will stay silent about Ron Paul because they consider his ideas of small government to be heresy.
If he does make any publicity, the media will mis-charactorize him as a kook.
I hope Ron Paul's campaign will figure out how to bypass the mainstream media. I see his videos on YouTube pretty often, that has to help.
But TV, radio and newspapers still dominate the media and Ron Paul will have to figure out how to get positive coverage from them.

I would never tell someone supporting any candidate to give up. I am thankful that Ron Paul supporters, and supporters of any candidate, care enough to actually have an opinion. Our society is way too apathetic.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and if you support Ron Paul, great.

I just hope that even if someone's candidate of choice doesn't get their party's nomination after the primaries, that the person finds another candidate to support in the general election. GET OUT AND VOTE! USE YOUR VOICE! Don't let others make the decision for you. And I say this regardless of candidate or party. EVERYONE should vote.

I don't tell them to give up, just that an Internet media run campaign does not a winner make. Asked a group of busy parents at my nieces softball game if they ever heard of Ron Paul and they said no. Do they use the Internet? Yes, but only to email information. If he isn't seen on the local news or even the national news within the first 15 minutes than he is an non-entity in their book.
