likely because Lee had his military construct many fires at evening, so the enemy couldn't see that they were sneaking up on them. because the Union all started marching in route of Fredericksburg, they suddenly said Lee's military in the front of them. Then, Lee and Jackson shocked Hooker by technique of no longer attacking them promptly on the 2d day. as a replace, Lee divided his forces (Lee took some, Jackson took some) and they shocked Hooker back. on the third day, after Jackson become shot by technique of his personal troops the evening before (they artwork scouting the Union's position to attack them, at the same time as the accomplice's mistook Jackson and his troop for enemies and unintended shot Jackson with 3 bullets. His arm become shattered and had to be amputated). On would 3, the Stuart commanded Jackson's troops and done the victory. On would fifth, Hooker's beaten troops withdrew back in the course of the river. (Jackson died on would 10 from problems with his wounds)

It was an overwhelming Confederate victory.
