Not alone. I live around the corner from the school and I have never let my kids walk it alone. Not worth the panic.

When my 8 yr old son started kindergarten, he came walking back in the door 30 minutes after I dropped him at school. I freaked and asked the principal how he got off school grounds....I was so mad!

He came home to brush his teeth!

If it's not too far or too cold out. If he's old enough and has someone to walk with. Never let him walk alone. But yeah, it's good excercise and a good way to get his blood pumping before a test.

My son walks to school everyday...we only live less than a mile from the school so the bus wont pick him up...I take him only if I am off work and it is cold outside...Walking is good for them.

Yes you should. Or maybe you shouldnt? He could get raped on the way to school. He could get beat up. He could die. A drunk drve could run off the road and hit him. He could be kidnapped.... Should you make him walk to school?

Yes, I always had to, why should he be any different? And I had to walk 12 miles, uphill both ways. And when I was his age, we didn't have engines in the cars, we had to push them.
