Dates can always change since they haven't started filming yet, but it's currently slated for release Oct. 10, 2008 but f course that can always change. Yes it will be in wide release in major theatre chains. Details on this production change all the time, you can check here for the latest:

They are no longer discussing replacing Vanessa Hudgens. The Haunted HSM theme is out, it will be more about Prom and dancing.

It might likely be late, late 2008'. But it's probably going to premire in 2009'. i'm just saying this becuase they havent even filmed it yet, actually thecontracts with the cast are still in talks.

I've heard sometime in 2008, later in the year. It could be sometime in '09 though...I believe this one's going to be released in the theaters since the first two were big hits.
