I guess some would consider this to be the ultimate display of devotion, and some wouldn't consider it for a second. Personally, I don't have any ink, but I had a friend who had the Pearl Jam stick figure done on her ankle. Three years later, she really regretted it.
If you don't have one, would you ever consider it? And if you do, are you still happy with your decision to get that done?

lovnrckets - as far as I know she hasn't. She's an elementary school teacher, though, so if she hasn't I imagine that skirts are out of the question at work.

GK Dub - that's too bad! At least it still has meaning outside of that to you.

Do not and probably would not...
My love for music knows no bounds but that type of commitment is just not for me.
IF I did, it would probably be the Black Flag logo (four black bars) since it's simple but makes a statement.
Clef tattoos would be the way to go though because you can express your love of music without feeling like you've dedicated your body to a particular band or artist.

As odd as it may be, being me and all, I have an Oingo Boingo tattoo. Two of my buddies and I decided it would be fun to get...kind of awesome buds tattoos and they were really big Oingo Boingo fans. I always liked them, not necessarily a favorite of mine, but I liked them. So they chose the skull with the cigarette from the Boingo Alive collection and I fell in line (it is a pretty cool picture). It was the first tattoo and I probably would have gone in a different direction if I hadn't been young and foolish, but no regrets. I still really appreciate the fact that it was kind of a symbol of friends and the gold ol' times and all that good stuff. The Oingo Boingo (I'm glad their name isn't anywhere on it) is just coincidental.
I had considered for quite some time getting a tattoo for a band I was in for quite a while (and I'm pretty proud of the work we did which in the sense of seeing tattoos as kind of symbols of stages of the life I've lived it felt appropriate), the singer a long time ago had come up with a potential t-shirt design that I always thought would make for a cool tattoo, but I can't help but feel kind of cheesey about it. I doubt I'll ever do it.

I've actually been giving some serious thought to getting a tattoo lately, but I don't think I'd get one that had anything to do with a band, except maybe something along the lines of what GK Dub said, a symbol or image that related to the band but which also has some meaning independent of the band. The main reason is that my musical tastes change pretty often, insofar as that my favourite band of the moment might, in a few years, just be a band that I like. And also, what lovnrckets said about band t-shirts.

Wow, I asked this question about a month ago, and on my way to school this morning i thought about someone else asking this question..today.
Psychic much?
Anyway, I've always said that if i ever meet Slash [assuming i don't faint], I'll get him to sign my wrist or breast [or both] and get it tattooed on. hehe
Yes, I would get a band-related tattoo.
I don't think I'd get a tattoo that said the band name and nothing more, but I'd definitely get a symbol that relates to the band.
I don't think I'd regret it either. We only live once, so even if we get over our extreme love for a band, we're going to be able to look back at the tatts when we're old and remember good times.
I've designed some tattoos already, some related to songs [I've taken the lyrics and translated them into pictures], and some are related to bands too... perhaps not obvious band symbols, but still related to the bands in a sense.
I now have to wait just over a year until i can legally get them done.
OK I've rambled on for too long, but tattoos and bands are two of my favourite topics.
shh.

Very tiny misfits skull, I had also thought about gettin gthe negative symbol that all the guys in Type O have, but I'm not sure if I ever will.
I don't regret the misfits tat, my kids like it too, I'm glad I didn't get it as big as I initially wanted (didn't have the cash at the time) and where I initially wanted (right on my right shoulder - it's tiny and on my ankle), but I wouldn't ever get rid of it.
*just for laughs - although it is true* I have two friends that in high school got drunk and gave each other terrible tats for their favorite bands, "n" gave "m" a tat that said metalica, not in the logo form just terrible drunk writting, when he realized he forgot one of the "L"s he went below it did one of theses ^ and then put the extra "L". If that isn't bad enough, he then trusted "m" to tattoo Pantera on his arm, which "m" (purposely or accidentally - who knows) left out the n, and corrected it later with the same ^
*shakes her head* oh to be young and dumb again......

Although I don't plan on getting one, if I saw a tattoo I just absolutely had to have I probably wouldn't mind getting it somewhere not in plain sight, because the bands I love I REALLY love.
But I know someone who has Gabba Gabba Hey! tattoo, and I thought that was pretty awesome. A reference to the Ramones if that was lost on anyone. In fact, maybe I'll get the Ramones mock presidential seal! That would be never cease to be cool, and to refute the old question to shame you for having a tattoo, I'd proudly show it to my grand children to prove I was still cooler than them.

Nadda... the only thing I've found that I've found that I love enough to get permanently attached to my body is my wife and son... okay, and maybe my dog... and the cats... and a few pints of Guiness... and okay, damnit I give up.
NP: "Living for Today" - Thunder
***Yeah, I have "Klumbacher Eisbock" tattooed across my chest in big old english style letters. Apparently, it's not a good idea to drink beer with a 19% alcohol content while doing tequila shots during Oktoberfest. Okay, I just made all that up, but I really don't think that'd be a very good idea.

My one and only tattoo is the heartagram symbol from HIM. I got it a few years ago long before the band's popularity took off here in the U.S. and all the 14 year olds jumped on the Bam Margera bandwagon. Although I love the band, there are several bands that I love even more. But I chose their symbol not only because I liked them, but because the symbol to me represents good and bad, up and down, black and white, ect. I'm a big believer in balance, and that you gotta take the good with the bad. It made more sense than getting a yin-yang tattoo. I don't regret having the tattoo done, I just wish the symbol hadn't become so well recognized here, because now there are a ton of people with heartagram tattoos.

I would never get a band tattoo, for the sake of space. I would rather use the space to get a tattoo of something more meaningful. Maybe family related, or something that reminds me of my own accomplishments.
It's not hard to get a tattoo that reflects a bands overall message/persona (or whatever it is that draws one to a band so much, that they need a tattoo), without referencing that band.
I just wouldn't want to duplicate art like that. It feels pre-packaged. Plus, I'm sure the tattoo artist would be plenty annoyed.
Besides.....tastes change. Like when Homer Simpson once pulled up his sleeve to reveal a tattoo: "Starland Vocal Band! They Suck!!!"

Yes, and I really really really regret it, because I don't even like the band anymore. So you really need to think about whether or not you want a band's symbol on your body for the rest of your life. Think of all the other bands you LOVED but now you couldn't give a flying fart about. Seriously. If you'd told me years ago I'd regret my tattoo, i would have laughed in your face, and i did. Now, I can't afford to get it removed, so I have all three guys from Hanson on my right butt cheek for the rest of my life.
