STATIC IP to PS3:-

http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/connectadvance.html

For the Play station 3 select Manuals -> go to User's Guides -> Go to settings -> Go to network settings

Then go to Internet Connection Settings (advanced settings).
"IP Address Setting" select manual and enter IP address. Look at router dhcp to see the range from which you can get static ip address for ps3

PORT FORWARDING:-

above link is for port forwarding NBA2k7 (so with different port no 3658,9570 being forwarded) so keep in mind and use it as guide for NBA2k8(which I assume, is your game) the port no 4658

Quite frankly, you need to read the manual that came with the router for the specifics. It is rather straight forward and you have outlined the basic steps already yourself.

First - change the dhcp range of the router LAN IP addresses by logging onto the router using a WIRED connection. NEVER config or change the config of a wireless router using a wireless connection to the router.

I suggest you provide at least 49 static IP addresses for static IP use. Start the dhcp range at 50; if the IP range is 192.168.1.50-255 you have done this.

Now assign a static IP to the PS3; I would consider 192.168.1.2 unless this is already in use. RECORD all static IP addresses.

Now go to port forwarding of the router; activate port forwarding for port 4658, define it as TCP or UDP as PS3 tells you, and enter the PS3 static IP and you are done.

SAVE YOUR ROUTER CONFIG or you will lose it next time the router needs to be upgraded.

Actually DJ I am going to have to disagree with you Netgear makes very awesome routers ive had mine for 4 years and not a single issue with it. Chances are that either A The router is damaged somewhere and is going out or B you live where there is alot of interference with walls and metal or alot is conflicting with the channel on your router due to other wireless devices in your building.

Port forwarding is done under the advanced menu in you router,
If it's still factory default then goto you browser and type
192.168.1.100 enter a password screen should appear leave the username blank and the password is admin.
The click on advanced setup, then click on port forwarding.
then at the bottom you have empty boxes they say enable by a empty check box put a check in it, then you have a port box type in 4658 and then in the IP box type in the IP address that your PS3 is assigned. 192.168.1.101 or like that.
You will need to know this ip once that is done click on the apply button on the bottom right and your done.
If you are not sure where to find the ip address of you PS3 the refer to the owners manual of the PS3 of you can use the basic setup for the router and click on basic then click on setting, then click on dhcp table. if you have a computer hooked up and the PS3 then on of them is the computer and the other is the PS3 and one will be the routers.
You must have the PS3 on in order to see aIP address issued.
Also if you need to change the PS3 to a fixed IP address then you again need to refer to your Owner manual on thei procedure.
Well there you have it.
