In a manual trans all fifth gear works but it pops into nuetral unless you physically hold it in gear what is the problem, and how much to fix it ( parts and labor)? Any insight would be great.

Sounds like it's not going into gear all the way.

If it's front wheel drive, it could be damaged linkage or cable.

If it's rear wheel drive, it could be a worn shifting fork in the tranny.

It's hard to say without knowing what you drive.

sounds like a detent isn't working... the detent is what holds it in gear.... you might be able to take it to a tranny shop and get it fixed but depending on make model ect. parts and availability could be a problem
