I live in Salt lake city Utah and my ex husband pays me 250.00 a month now. However since the time of our divorce he now makes 110.000 a year. I am reluctant to push the matter due to the fact that it will cause a fight and we get along great right now, but I could really use the money. We have joint custody, however due to the fact that he works so much he only takes her on Sat. and Sun.. Any advice would be great. Thanks

Go to the Friend of Court that originally handled the case.... Find out what the Law in your state entail / entitle you. In most states child support is / can be review every 2 or 3 years for increase or decrease as the individual case warrents. Again in most states the duration of time you are in physical possession of the minor child will dictate how much you will or will not receive in child support. Again find out how the laws in Utah read in reference to custody and child support.

Child support is for the children. If you have a nice relationship with him now, try to tell him that you dont want to go to court and you would like to keep things nice - BUT, that the children need more things and you would like more $ for them.

If he protests, take him to court. At least you will have given him the option to work it out as a family rather than thru the courts

good luck

I would be careful. I know of someone who did this. He made about $110,000 a year, however he was self employed so he had alot of deductions from this income. After all of the deductions from his income tax which the courts use to determine actual income it was $25,000. She wound up getting less child support than she had before!

Tell him that you need more money, if he agrees to give you more tell him that you must do it legally. This is to protect you and make sure your child is well taken care of. Don't be greedy just because he makes so much, that well cause the very problems you are trying to avoid...

I don't know how much you make but if he makes $110,000 per year he is paying WAY too little in child support. Go back and have it modified.

any changes need to go through the court, a pain I know, but get what is rightfully yours the calculation is based on a year, you all still married and him having the kids certain days, if he isnt doing it, then get the money through courts,

If your amount is based on a %, then yes, you should go back to have it changed. Your child(ren) are entitled to that.
