ok so im in Aus and recently at my school weve been BANNED from giving out christmas cards to our friends and teachers in school hours. because it "might" offend some of the muslim kids at our school.

now im not narrow minded IMHO but isnt this a little unfair, i mean, its our country and i think we should be allowed to follow our traditions. most people i know wouldnt mind if the kids of other cultures celebrated their traditions at school aswell, and honestly the giving of christmas card at out (secular) school has very little religious signifigance. its just a fun friendly sort of thing.
whats your view on this?

I am so sick of political correctness that I could spit!
This is only one of the latest in a long line of completely ridiculous things going on in this country, (America), and other places as well.
This is just stupid!!!!
This will, mark my words here folks, cause more harm than good.
What I mean by this is that by forcing people to keep their mouths shut, because someone may be offended, by banning peoples religious traditions, because someone might be offended, and so on, then you are asking for trouble.
Need I make an example of the Middle East?
The radical Muslims who would like to quiet every voice and religion except their own?
By forcing people to keep things bottled up inside themselves, you are creating a ticking time-bomb.
Sooner or later it WILL explode.
We have lived in this country for many generations and all religions are allowed to practice their beliefs and traditions.
I find it reprehensible that Christians seem to singled out for the banning of their practices, such as exchanging Christmas cards at school, because it may offend the Muslim community.
That any group should should try to silence another and that the govenment would allow it to happen is beyond stupid!
It's dangerous!

This isn't a racist question at all. This is religious and as all races are practice Islam, you can't be considered racist for the question.

That being said, nothing should be banned. If the other religious sects are not being forced to participate and they are not being precluded from doing their own celebrating or well-wishing it should not be an issue. I've never understood people being "offended" by handing out cards or being told "Merry Christmas." I'm not Jewish but I wasn't offended when my Jewish friends gave me cards that said "Happy Hanukkah." I'm not offended by any religious observations of any kind and I don't understand how anyone can justify taking offense to something as innocuous as a greetings card. People need to get over themselves.

You can't pass them out during "school hours" so have everyone who wants to take a stand against this arrive 20-30 minutes early one day or stay 20-30 minutes late and pass them out at the school. They can't do a thing about it then and you'll be sending a message.

This is a major issue where companies ban even saying Merry Christmas to customers and have ads saying Happy Holidays rather than Merry Christmas. I am tired of the PC world its time to stand up for this and follow the traditions you talk about.

Hand out your Christmas cards and stay true to your religion!

It's a big deal in the US as well....and I'll tell you what...

This weekend....the Empire State Building in New York was lit up green in honor of the Islamic holiday of Eid ul-Fitr on October 12, 2007...So come Christmas it BETTER light up red and green!!!

Enough with the political correctness!

Merry Christmas to ALL!!!!

That's so silly to me. Kids should be able to celebrate whatever holiday they wish. Are Jewish kids not allowed to give one another Hanuka cards or gifts? What about Kwanzaa? Did the Muslim students complain about this or did the principle make this decision on his or her own? So I take it you are all banned from having a Christmas dance or party as well? There's no need for them to be offended, they just shouldn't participate.

Giving Christmas cards might offend a few? Well, not being allowed to give them offends many! I'm offended every time I see Muslim woman walking around all covered up and draped to hide herself. It reminds me of 9/ll and...let's see...OH, YEAH, I remember....It was Muslims who offended a whole lot of us when they murdered three thousand of our innocent citizens.
If they don't like our customs in America, perhaps they should distance themselves from us...as in GO BACK TO THE SAND HILLS. I am not about to be told whether or not I can give Christmas cards or say "Merry Christmas." I have, I do and I shall continue to!! Christmas is the celebration of Christ's birth and I WILL celebrate the birth of my Lord. I'd rather offend a few than offend the Savior!

It is wrong my frnd.
You know sometimes I feel that the other races are more raciest than the whites , who tragically have been given the crown for the former..lol...........but yea......they donlt do dat for their month of ramadan or whatever it is!!
and they are allowed to wear scrafs.....but christains distrinuting christmas cards(which has evolved into a world festival no matter what releigion u come frm) is a problem with them!!
seems outragious to me.

how can u stop people from celebrating christams and wishing each other!!
its here in the US too..........i for one refuse to acknowledge it!!....muslims get their festivals taken care off and we have to be courtious towards them since they may get offended.....i am not a christain and neither a muslim..........i'm frm india but We have grown up celebrating christams..........some things just don;t seem to make sense!1

how can they be allowed to practise their relegion in the open with all those headbands and stuff!!........and we for one the relegions have to accept all that and to top it up the most celebrated festival in d world has to be solomnised!!

this is racism not the former!!

So to prevent offending a few, they are going to ANGER the masses? That makes no sense to me! There are places here in the United States where they say "happy holidays" that does not work for me. I tell people when I greet them on the street "MERRY CHRISTMAS" I was told that might offend someone ... well "happy holidays" OFFENDS ME!

Pass your Christmas cards, make your stand known! If you have a friend thats Muslim, don't give them a card, our society has become to politically correct and will cower to the whim of society! Christian have to bend to those around US ... As a CHRISTIAN, I refuse too!

Christmas has become so secular and commercialized that I don't see how passing out a Christmas card can be contrued as offensive. Plus, it IS a legal holiday- and since there is a separation of church and state, the government is acknowledging Christmas as a secular holiday.

Pass out the cards. Oh, and Merry Christmas!

this is the stuff if we dont fight we will live a life where noone can say anything because it "might" offend someone. our society has taken this PC attitude way too far!! we can't say the pledge of eleigence b/c it has the word god in it. parents are too scared to punish their child because we are too afraid DCFS might be called on them, and society wonders why children now adays are soo rotten. if you cant give xmas cards in school then jews shouldnt be able to wear their little hats. or how about this. we probably should outlaw all chritian symbals. that would mean everyone who wears a cross as a pendent, necklace, or earrings have to take them off. yes i seem to be exagerating but this will be the future if we dont start to fight back now!! send your cards and fight the punishment!!!
