My mum had an album by a band called "Red Sovereign" and it had 2 songs on it the first "Teddy Bear" about a young crippled boy who talks on the cb to truckers and the other "Little Rosa" about a father buying a rose for his daughter's grave. Both real tearjerkers.

My vote is also for he stopped loving her today. When I was young I thought that was such a happy song-I thought he moved on with his life-"all dressed up to go away" and "they placed a wreath upon his door" so as a child I assumed it was Christmas-as I got older and listened to it I realized the truth and it broke my heart :)

"Jeannie's Afraid Of The Dark" by Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton. The song is about a little girl who was always afraid of the dark and when she died she didn't want to be buried in the ground because of that. The end result was her parents placed an eternal flame at her gravesite so she wouldn't be in the dark.

The one they always play alot around Christmastime that has in it "mommy's an angel now..." He is singing to his little boy about how the mom died and is in heaven.
I have no idea who the guy is that sings it but it is the saddest freakin' song.

One that I grew up on was Dolly Pardon's "Me and Little Andy" about a little girl and her puppy out in a winter storm looking for a place to sleep, cause her parents didn't care, and ended up dying in her sleep along with the puppy.

Santa I'm Right Here- Toby Keith

It hits kinda close to home. My dad found out there was no Santa when he was 4 because he didn't get any presents. It really depresses me and I cry every time I hear it
