why do people always look down upon arts students?

a lot of it has to do with jealousy. art students are probably studying one of the only things that you study because you love the subject and not because you want to be rich or learn a profession.
that gives you freedom that nobody else has got.
also lots of people are in that run dictated by our capitalis society and try to impose their beliefs on others. being an art (or as i was, literature) major, you break out of that pattern and so disrupt their narrow minded world view.

Because those people doesnt appreciate arts.
I'm an art student,dont worry,i will fight and show the world an art student can be a successful person also,not only the science students will do the best.

I don't know actually.
My son is considered to be an "art student" even though he's studying "Acoustic Arts" (which is really the Science of sound). But because he goes to a school that is considered to be an "Art school" he gets that label.

I have many friends and associates who were "art students." I was an "art student" and there's nothing "easy" about it!

ok, i think most people think its a joke!! i mean come on, if i could go to college to become a video game player trust me i would!! you are going to school to and doing what you love, i mean even when you have homework, its not really homework because you would be doing it anyway!! plus you are learning something that is completely subjective!! how can you get a grade on that!! please remember that was not a question, just simply stating what people think!! my best friend is an art student and he never had any finals and most of his homework was done in class!! and unless you are taking a specific art major like computer design or something like that, how is that going to get you a job?? if you want to be just an artist painting and drawing there is no need to go to college!! a degree does not make your art that much more valuable!!

"Always" is a necessarily inaccurate and overly broad generalization.

I will say, however, that some arts students are irritating in their snobbery and rudeness. They project an attitude that BECAUSE they are artists (in training) and angst-filled, the normal rules of civility don't apply, and the world should simply tolerate their self-absorption. Good thing that these wannabes eventually graduate and have to get a job like the rest of us.

Many 4 365 days faculties received't settle for a GED degree yet require attendance first at a community college before being admission. faculties of nursing and hospitals usually look down upon a GED./ Many employers given the alternative between someone with a GED and a each day extreme college degree will opt for the fellow with the common extreme college degree./

I've never heard of anyone looking down on arts students. I certainly don't and i know of no one who does.

because our society only values the bottom line, the financial side. Humanities are an irrelevancy, and artists are perceived as being deliberately nonpractical (from the money/value point of view).

sad, eh? But in 100 years, no one wil lknow or care who the financiers were; artists of today could still be making an impact.

I didn't know that people always look down on art students, I never did, maybe you should rephrase your question and look a bit deeper and then take responsibility for the way you feel rather than play victim and blame your environment.
