I agree with you 100%. I think all people should be trained to use a gun properly. Knowing gun safety is very important and being able to have a gun when you need it is imperative. The criminals will always have access to guns. If they start removing guns from the law abiding citizens, the criminals will still have the guns and we will be at their mercy. I would much prefer to have a gun and know how to use it when the time comes for me to protect me and my family than to give up the rights and maybe end up a victim of murder or assault. I know that being educated in the use of a gun and having acces to one works because my Mom was confronted with a gun bearing intruder and she made him leave immediately by using her gun with authority. He was caught and no one was hurt. How many lives could be protected if law abiding citizens were permitted to use a gun when they were in a dangerous situation. I also believe that having a stun gun might help you if you didn't have access to another weapon. Better to have a tool that will help in the event of an attack than to be unarmed and a weaponless victim. My father-in-law was shot in an armed robbery. If he had a gun at the time, he would not have had to go through the pain and difficulties he faced as a crime victim. Luckily, he survived the shooting but, made it barely by a stroke of luck. The bullet hit right next to his heart; barely missing it. I support the NRA and believe that we need to fight for our rights to bear arms. It is very important. The libs have it all wrong. Once the rights are lost, it is very difficult to get them back.

I would not rule out owning a stun gun, but your best defense is keeping alert and not being to proud to ask for a security guard to walk you to your car. Women should never have a purse hanging by a strap from their shoulder, leave the purse in the trunk, and carry a billfold out of sight. Thugs look for an easy soft target, such as someone who is fumbling for keys or maybe overloaded with shopping bags. Do a walk around your vehicle if you are in a parking lot to make sure nobody is lurking around. I have been "stranger attacked" once in my life. They attacked me from behind with a bat or club. If I would have had a stun gun or other weapon, I am sure they would have used it. They were scared off by a passing stranger and though my injuries were serious, I was not robbed, nor molested. They were never apprehended, and I never exit a car without looking around. I also support the NRA, and this from an old hippie! The police said they believed it was a gang initiation. Attack a stranger to get your colors. I was in a well lit parking lot at a popular lounge that served great food, not in some dive.

For one thing that the other Guy said an AR 15 would beer one of the best home defense guns its a ddefensive gun too. Also tranquilizers are not very effective it takes about 20 mins for them to work its basically just a sleeping pill. Also for a tranquilizers to work the person or animal must be very calm if they get a rush of adrenalin the tranq will have no effect. Most people who attack you and your family in your home are usually on some type of druglike meth and will stop at noting till they physically can not. If you are ever attacked the only thing you will want is a gun.

I thought they were against the law to own. Or at least someone told me that was the case in Oregon once. And
they had one for their own protection. I'd have to make sure
they weren't illegal to own before I'd have one. But unless
you're fast on your feet, you could easily have one taken
away and used on yourself. And that wouldn't be good. They
would probably be so mad, they'ed try to kill you, one way or
another. I wonder if pellet guns are OK to have? We had one
to kill off the opossums that would attack the little cats they
would try to kill. They can be vicious when bothered. And we
sold it to a neighbor who has cats. Now we have to worry
about our little dogs at night. This is the time of year they
start coming around looking for food. And we put out bird
seed that they will eat if they can't find anything else.
Anyway, hubby keeps a small baseball bat near the door.
Just in case. And one in the car under the seat. For an old
guy, he can be fast when he wants to LOL.When I go, he's
along. So he's my protector instead of a stun gun.

OK, all of you; I'm am HUGELY liberal, yet support the NRA and own several firearms. I have taken 5 handgun courses and know how to use a pistol in low-light conditions.
A Tazer will not prevent an assailant from getting up and coming at you again, and they get up FAST! Use a gun, and they won't get up; it's that simple.
I'd rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6!

I went to a mace class once a long time ago. I carried it everywhere. I became parinoid. Everywhere I looked was a bad guy waiting to grab me. I was afraid that someone would over power me, grab my mace and use it against me.
So I started to just carry it in my purse instead of in my hand. But I thought that I would have to say, "Wait a minute, I need to get something out of my purse." That wouldn't work either, so I stopped carrying it.
Now I pack a 357 magnum on a belt at my hip. If I get attacked I just say, "Go ahead, make my day." LOL.
Seriously, I hate guns and do not want one around me!

I too support the NRA. Personally look at a stun gun as being more dangerous than a gun 1) their mortal capabilities are greatly underestimated, 2) they look to be harder to handle than a gun, 3) If you have the training to responsible own a gun, you have more positive control of the weapon.

A phaser. That would be awesome.
For proof of the stupidity of the gun control issue, one has only to look to England. Since outlawing weapons in the hands of private citizens, and a mandatory confiscation program, the crime rate has shot through the roof. Now, truly only the crooks have guns. Brilliant. Yet the Libs still push it over here. Even in the face of proof that it doesn't work.

In Canada ,Only the police are allowed to have these and if we did use one against an assailant we would be the one charged with having a weapon. Either way the bad guys win . Your Poppa sounds like he was a very wise man.

No. I figure why have a gun if it is used just to knock some bad guy out. If some one attacks me in rage in order to do me great bodily harm or kill me, I want to be able to respond the same way. Which is why I tell people if I know some one is coming for me they are dead. Don't ever point a gun at some one unless you use it. Don't talk, don't argue, just shoot. That is how a lot of people get dead, they have to talk. Not me, I aim, I shoot. Period.
