1 hp =746W

So 2.5 of these horses at 100% efficiency is 4103Watts

at 220 volts it will need a minimum of 20 Amp running circuit and 35 - 40Amp protection.

Also these folks forgot the Power Factor. Depending how efficient is you motor, the PF plays a big role. So V x I x PF will tell you. Rule of the thumb is 746 Watts is a HP. Now, look at the unit and it will probably show the PF. If that is the HP output at normal use, you have to consider under load and with load an the PF will vary. I would assume is a normal use so is 746 x 2.5 = 1865 W

I can assume that is Electrical HPs and not Mechanical HPs

Instead of the whole list there is a simple formula.
Take the Amps times Volts (120 or 240) = Watts
Or if you know the Watts the it's Watts / Volts =amps
Voltage is figured on 120volts or 240 volts 208/277 480.
This will give you the answer as long as you know the input voltage.
