No offense but the idea probably goes back hundreds of years.

No offense too; is the thought that you haven't come up with ideas, even in practicing with a utility knife; etc.

Take a book; preferabbly thick enough to contain in a pocket; your vast wealth. Decide on a size for cutting a POCKET; then CUT; until you feel OK with it; leaving pages in the beginning and at the end; enough to not be obvious if someone happened to open just the cover.

I am not trying to be disrespectful at all, but it isn't exactly a "NOVEL" (no pun intended) approach to hiding cash, anymore than a soup can in a pantry designed for the purpose.

If someone knows of your notion to hide a stash or has such notions that people do such a thing, might you not assume...even if they aren't avid "readers"; that they might check your books?

On a light hearted note; your Q made me recall the Old FILE in the Cake trick for prisoners. :)

Hard covered book that is larger & thicker than needed.
Inside cut out center (leave paper frame to maintain book size) using utility knife, box cutter, razor blade, anything sharp.
