Pure (Ceasar's Palace), Studio 54 (MGM), Rain in the Desert and Ghost Bar(The Palms), Tangerine (Treasure Island), Bell Bottoms (Stratosphere). All are great...but be prepared to wait in line and pay astronimical covers. Look for the people on the Strip handing out the "VIP" cards...they sometimes have ones for no cover and a free round of drinks.

I was checking the internet just the other day and found some really great rates for Excalibur and Luxor. They are in a great location, just minutes away from the other casinos, and right in the middle of all of the action. They are a few of the older hotels, but they are still nice. They also have some great nightclubs, and restaurants right at the hotel. I would try to stay away from the Stratosphere. Even though it is considered to be on the strip, it isn't. Technically you could walk from it to the Sahara, but it is through an area of town, that I wouldn't want to be walking through. You would enjoy it a lot more if you stay right on the strip. It costs a little bit more, but Planet Hollywood is a great place to stay for younger people, as it has a really hip vibe. As far as shows go, I would suggest seeing a Cirque show such as LOVE, or Mystere. Mystere is one of the cheaper shows on the strip, and it is still spectacular! I would also plan to visit one of the popular nightclubs in town. Some great clubs to try are Jet, Tao, Lavo, or Pure. If you are trying to decide between flying or driving, it really depends on how far of drive it is. If you can afford to fly, I would. It will make the trip seem easier and more relaxed. You also probably won't be using your car once your there, as traffic can be bad. Everything you will want to see will be nearby, should you stay on the strip. Hope this helps! Have fun!

Jillian's is great for local indie music. In all honesty, there's very few "bad" clubs and bars in Vegas--- too competitive; a bad club can't stay in business. There's also usually some good shows at The Joint in the Hard Rock Casino/Hotel but in all honesty, there's also a lot of skeezers and floozies hanging out at the Hard Rock so be prepared to escape right after the show--- and opt for car service/limo instead of waiting in the cab line!

You will save a fortune on the room if you do some planning and are flexible with your dates. There are going to be some very high room rates, and some very good ones. Super Bowl weekend the room rates will be astronomical, and there are usually 2 very-very large conventions in January that drive room rates out of sight.
